433MHz TUI scanner: using a FT232H connected to a CC1101
Six jumper wires join a CC1101 radio module to a CJMCU-232H (FT232H) board, and a Python script on the laptop turns it into a 433 MHz scanner. A spectrum sweep, and a listen mode that decodes fixed-code remotes. No microcontroller, no soldering, receive only.

I really should try to build a project with a PIC microcontroller. How easy are they to program? What toolchain do you use?

i tried to reverse the firmware of another audio player they sell (which presumably has the same format & microcontroller) and it's some super bespoke firmware format, i couldn't get far at all. but it does load anything you give it w/o signing, i fucked w/ some strings and it flashed it fine

Cyber-Physical System Exploitation: Analyzing IoT SCADA Refrigeration Attacks and Microcontroller Hardening Strategies + Video
Introduction: As industrial facilities and retail infrastructure accelerate their adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) architectures, the boundary between digital control and physical operational safety continues to erode. Recent cyberattacks across European supply chains manipulated connected temperature regulation microcontrollers to trigger premature defrost cycles, destroying critical inventory without dropping traditional network alarms. This article examines the vectors enabling remote register tampering in operational technology (OT) networks and provides actionable hardening, segmentation, and manual fail-safe designs to protect critical infrastructure.

A microcontroller can't really do a full on distro. Maybe a super-duper barebones kernel with a tiny smattering of kernel modules but they're closer to DOS machines in terms of how they work. Most of the time an ESP32 isn't running anything close to a real operating system on it. Just firmware.

So the Cardputer Adv that I've been doofing around with is mostly just a nice veneer around an ESP32-S3A microcontroller, which has some limitations as compared to a full CPU. A Cardputer Zero is a full system built on a Raspberry Pi Computer Module 0, so it's a full CPU the size of a stack of cards

So, our internal team re-designed the PCB with a new microcontroller, with our own firmware, completely from scratch. Its now going back into sampling and production. The module side has been done for over a year! Thanks for your patience!

A few months ago I built a little Weather Device to hang on my wall. I bought the component parts (LED matrix, microcontroller, light sensor), did all of the programming, and learned to make a 3D printable mounting bracket.

It's nice to see it on the wall, doing its job, and think, "I made that!"

basically we need either

1) a microcontroller with enough ram (~1gb) that is cheaper than a pi 5 2gb

2) an array of 4 16mp cams that can sync perfectly that is somehow cheaper than our current setup of a 64mp arducam + pi5
Dear hardware hackers: I have a good challenge for you! What's the cheapest way to get a really high quality, high resolution still image? (especially if we can get away from a raspberry pi!)

From the embedded community on Reddit: High-res, low-framerate, low-power, low-cost still camera for outdoor insect monitoring (anything better than pi + 64mp cam)
