Possible issue is that the quality & fit of most men's formalwear has plummeted in recent decades. A bespoke or even made-to-measure suit/DJ is as comfortable as a comfy thing but who can afford them these days? Probably not cornetists, yet even my coalminer granddads got their suits from a tailor.

I love the naturalization-petition guarantors in klezmer research. it's often someone interesting. "Oh, he knew that guy?" or "Wow 2 cornetists being guarantors for a cornetist." Seems like it was either a family friend, regular colleague, or American-born bandleader if they knew one.
