Yesterday went to Dovecot to see the Costume Couture: 60 years of Cosprop exhibit which was exquisite but also popped up to the balcony to view the Elizabeth Blackadder and the angy orange cat at the bottom is sending me! Also this is a tapestry and not a painting! Gobsmackingly gorgeous!

This was one of the best (and most unexpected) things I saw at the #edfringe this year. Beautifully-detailed period costumes from movies & TV, including a bunch of Merchant-Ivory productions, Jane Austen adaptations, Downton Abbey, etc.

Talking of care, recommend the Dovecot's Cosprop exhibition. Even if you're not a fashion or costume drama fan it's heartening to see the exquisite crafts dedicated to making fictional worlds as real as possible. Plus I was *this* close to Colin Firth's Mr Darcy costume and have a new film wishlist

Excellent talk today, included a mention of the iconic hat worn by Audrey Hepburn in the Ascot scene of My Fair Lady. Ticket price included access to Dovecot’s current fantastic costume exhibition. Can highly recommend a visit if you get the chance.

Dovecot’s new exhibition of film and TV couture
The new exhibition at Dovecot Studios which opens on 18 July includes a wide range of costumes and accessories which are part of the collection founded by costume designer, John Bright. Bright is a London-based, Oscar and BAFTA-winning designer who founded Cosprop in 1965. This is the go to place for filmmakers to access period costumes, either existing or which have to be made to order. After 60 years, the company has dressed characters in many films and TV series such as Helena Bonham Carter in A Room With A View, Meryl Streep in Out of Africa and Maggie Smith.

Dovecot Studios reveals Blackadder and Cosprop summer shows
Dovecot Studios operates as a working textile facility in Edinburgh’s former Infirmary Street Baths, where visitors routinely watch weavers operate large-scale looms on the gallery floor. This summer, the venue hosts two distinct historical surveys: the first examines the late Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, while the second traces sixty years of production by the London costume house Cosprop. I saw this with my own eyes at the Cosprop exhibit in London last autumn. This post showed up in my TL and I went, "Wait a second..." (I *cried* at that exhibit. So many astounding works of costume skill and beauty.)
Award-winning English costume designer Anthony Powell was born #OnThisDay in 1935. He designed this peignoir consisting of a lace and peach silk underdress and an embroidered green silk overdress with marabou trim worn by Natassja Kinksi in Tess (1979). Cosprop #film #costume

When I was in London last fall, I chose one day to criss-cross the Thames from Tower Bridge to Westminster, diverting as whims took me. This included a thorough inspection of Borough Market (*sigh* the Ginger Pig Sausage Roll) & a pit stop for the Cosprop Exhibit. Much better than a tourist trap
