we’re about to start seeing a lot of “here’s a cost effective meal your grandparents made during the great depression”
Japanese giant SoftBank said Tuesday it has sold its entire stake in tech giant Nvidia for $5.83 billion.

Surely it would be more cost-effective to simply pay Iran to reopen the strait

Beyond the general stupidity here, that wouldn't even be cost-effective! Wind and solar are cheaper than coal
Trump suggests AI facilities should have coal plants right next to them for electricity

28g (1oz) uranium contains ~20,000,000,000 kcal, making it an incredibly cost effective source of calories

What?!
It’s cost effective to HELP PEOPLE?!?!
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

Vaccines not only save lives, they save money.

Paying a hospital bill for what should have been an avoidable illness could bankrupt families and cost the government billions.

Vaccines work and are a cost-effective investment.
Opinion | Not vaccinating comes at an exorbitant cost

I asked my kids which country they'd want to visit.

My son: Egypt

My daughter: Turkey

My youngest daughter: Taco Bell

My youngest daughter is currently my favorite due to her practical, cost-effective preferences.

There is a very real argument being made in Hollywood that AI democratizes filmmaking, making it available to outsiders. In truth, the cost of effective generative AI is cost prohibitive to all but corporations, leading to no improvement in quality at the cost of jobs both above and below the line.
A24 defends AI partnership

“Our relationship with our audience is something we don’t take for granted .. We want to dictate what tools get built for artists, and so they have a voice in shaping them rather than having tools handed to them. We’d rather have a seat at the table than on the sidelines"

sorry, but “it is more cost effective to prepare food at home vs ordering delivery” is just true? you can do whatever makes sense for your life but that fact remains.
The problem is your bullshit argument sounds like something gramps would say.
Who gives a fuck about cookies? Talking about actual food, while you want to lecture on home economics to people, when it's a goddam certainty you haven't been close to $7 and change an hour for some time.

The necessary systems required for comparable output is where spartans are overwhelmingly more cost effective.

Surprisingly effective things Zohran Mamdani ran on:
-free buses
-rent freeze
-halal cart for $8 instead of $10
-taxing the 1%
-no cost childcare
-city-owned grocery stores
-a Department Of Community Safety for mental health programs and crisis response
-building affordable housing
-why Cuomo sucks

I think a large undervote that ended Kaptur's career would be an effective and relatively low-cost signal to stop this nonsense.
If you're in Ohio, do not vote for Marcy Kaptur. She needs to lose. It's just anti trans ad after anti trans ad.

This is how they think of us. We're a resource, a commodity. If we aren't cost effective, what good are we?
February 22, 2026 at 2:45 AM
That's just it. It *is* cost effective. Universal healthcare is cost effective. Free education is cost effective. Democracy is cost effective. Eliminating poverty is cost effective. For companies, for the rich, for everyone.

That's the real problem. It would benefit *everyone*.

Each unit costs under $500, offering a remarkably low-cost, effective defense solution.

Effective Altruism *was* Effective Sociopathy. It was a gloss on selfishness that presumed the existence of benevolent, omniscient billionaires who could do cost/benefit analysis encompassing the entire future of humanity. Funny how the math always worked out to "keep the money for later use."
For all the hand wringing about tech-world interest in Effective Altruism, it seems distinctly preferable to the currently empowered strain of Effective Sociopathy

I think we can agree this effort to recover $2.90 has been, to say the least, not very cost effective
