#CounterSurveillance
This whining by Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons seems to indicate resistance by neighborhoods and countersurveillance of ICE agents is working. Keep it up!

In @wired.com today, the latest excerpt from EMPIRE OF AI recounts the tensions that began bubbling beneath the surface after Sam Altman took over OpenAI. Including when he asked for a countersurveillance audit because he was worried Elon Musk was spying on them. 👀

granted this was for a class titled "Hacking the Apocalypse: Communications and Countersurveillance" so they were definitely a self-selecting group...
i did a really fun exercise with a class last week where i put together a photo album of pictures of communications and surveillance infrastructure from around my neighborhood and then we discussed what thing was & what it was (probably) doing & how it hypothetically might be disrupted or repurposed

Minneapolis is serious about ICE. My hotel, presumably used by ICE, had its fire alarm pulled at 4:45AM.

My rental w/ out of state plates was constantly followed. Two locals approached to determine if I was ICE after my plates were flagged.

Constant countersurveillance by locals who want ICE out.

New from me: on the staggering hypocrisy of media outlets offering guides to privacy, countersurveillance, and safe protest, in articles which are teeming with adtech and location data trackers: data which the fascist surveillance apparatus is buying up in bulk.

“A course called “Operator” instructs members on how to bribe government officials in other countries, including by offering “$20 to $50 for street level police.” It also gives pointers for resisting interrogation by government officials and mentions countersurveillance techniques”

My son chose French Connection as tonight's movie. Rewatching it I'm reminded of Friedkin's amazing attention to detail. The real heroin in the purity test scene. The very realistic depiction of street surveillance (if you look closely they use a classic box formation) and countersurveillance.

it's a countersurveillance method that goes back a long way. I remember it being used to be able to speak of someone who made a habit of namesearching and then swooping into the conversation

but now, they do it and bring followers too
