The little egret looks exotic for good reason. It only began breeding in Britain in 1996 on Brownsea Island. Before that a white heron here was a rarity. Now they line creeks across the south.

Nice. Unfortunately where I live, Adelaide's suburban creeks and rivers like the Onkaparinga and the Karrawirra (Torrens) don't have Platypus anymore. 😢

5. More awareness of need to keep creeks etc clear, eg ones I've seen this arvo (Te Auaunga at the headwaters end, and upper Whau where constituents are sending me videos) are running freely, no debris. In 2023 some flooding & damage was from blockages, broken fences slamming into things etc.

Here in Durango I am seeing new waterfalls everywhere, debris flows are blocking many roads, evacuations are happening along many smaller creeks. All county roads are closed. It is a wild scene.

In hot weather, and it was hot and humid yesterday, POwls like to roost low. They also roost along creeks, possibly to allow for their 140cm wingspan when they fly out at dusk, but also because it's cooler.
