“It’s a combination of the day before Christmas and the last day of school,” the commanding officer, Capt. Dan Keeler, told NBC News, adding that some of the crewmembers are just 18 years old.

“They are amazing, you know, legends and heroes,” he said. “Every single one of them.”

Greenpeace Warns of Environmental Fallout From Tanker Attack in Black Sea
Smoke from the burning tanker off the resort town of Sochi, Russia petered out on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the vessel was hit by one or more Ukrainian drones. Russian authorities have confirmed that a "terrorist attack" on the merchant tanker occurred, and Russian media outlets have confirmed its identity as the Liberian-flagged Aframax Rio. All 23 crewmembers (all Indian nationals) were evacuated safely from the tanker, and no injuries were reported, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport. The agency says that after an initial period of monitoring to allow the flames to subside, the fire has now been brought under control. Russia's public health ministry claims that no pollution has been detected, though burning petroleum on the water was visible in bystander imagery from the night of the attack. Nearby public beaches have been closed as a precautionary measure, and environmental monitoring of air and water quality continues, according to Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin. The vessel's salvage status as of October 7 is unknown; in unverified images circulating on social media on October 7, local citizens suggested that the ship had taken on a list to starboard. The vessel is on the move, drifting with the...

I don't know how the crewmembers sleep at night. They are worse than scabs. Better to flip burgers or shovel shit than to work deportation flights.
The ICE Air Operations official handbook allows minors as young as 13 to be shackled on ICE flights. We don’t know this girl/young woman’s age, but if she is over 18, it probably isn’t by much.

I don’t know how those flight “guards” sleep at night.

Pikachu spent 67 days in space
Happy World Space Week! The European Space Agency (ESA) and Pokémon Company International are celebrating a very special plush toy’s adventures. Earlier this year, a Pikachu plush travelled to the International Space Station (ISS) with ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot. The Pikachu spent 67 days in orbit (April 11 to June 17), completing about 1,040 orbits. The ISS circles the planet every 90 minutes, so crewmembers like Pikachu see 16 sunrises and sunsets per day. During the mission, Adenot captured photos and videos of this Pikachu on Earth and onboard the ISS. According to the ESA, Adenot has spent more than 200 days in space as part of her εpsilon mission. She conducted scientific research and completed three spacewalks over the summer to help maintain the orbiting laboratory. And Pikachu was there for part of it! “Inspiring future generations is a key part of ESA’s mission. Through this collaboration with Pokémon, we are unlocking new ways for people across Europe to connect with space through a unique and engaging experience,” ESA’s Director General Josef Aschbacher said in a statement. “By taking space exploration beyond traditional settings, we hope to ignite curiosity, spark a sense of wonder about our Universe and encourage...

The NX-01 apparently has 83 crewmembers (continuing Trek's strange insistence on having way too few crew for overly massive ships). For a crew that size, and for the mission being years long, one doctor and no nurses is insane.
October 6, 2026 at 1:10 PM
When you compare any of the Enterprise crewmembers to, say, the Apollo mission astronauts, or the Artemis II crew, the difference is STARK.

I wouldn't trust the NX-01 crew of season 1 to parallel park a car without screwing it up, let alone throw them the keys to an interstellar starship.
