#Criticism
The NYT thinks right wing criticism is legit and left of center criticism warrants a lecture
wtf is the point of doing this if every answer is just gonna be "actually we did a great job and you're an idiot for not understanding"
November 2, 2026 at 4:49 PM
the most infuriating thing the Times newsroom does is that they respond to conservative criticism by bending over backwards to address the unfairness and they respond to progressive criticism by lecturing us about how we don’t understand their high minded objectivity
i finally got to read this and wow is it a steaming pile of crap.

there is one constant in everything the NYT does and it’s this attitude of “we are smarter than you and you are simply too stupid to understand our choices.”

Our investigation found that Democratic operatives were behind a plan to bring a potential spoiler into the Senate race.

a senator stevens would have been one minor criticism away from switching parties it looks like

Not exactly beating the allegations. 🙄

Ken Paxton: “The criticism has been that I let a child predator out after one day. Well guess what? They served 60 days.”

So I guess the NYT canned their romance novel review columnist for reposting a link to @marisakabas.bsky.social's criticism of their reporting.
BREAKING: The New York Times has terminated their contract with romance columnist Olivia Waite after she reposted @markjacob.bsky.social 's repost of @marisakabas.bsky.social criticism of the Times’ coverage of new rape allegations about Trump.

That is a sentence I didn’t think I’d type today.

The NYT is great at defending itself against criticism by inventing what they’d like the criticism to be
November 1, 2026 at 10:20 PM
and that the criticism is over the news section not covering a rape accusation against the president? boy, I dunno

I know indie animation isn't above criticism, but there comes a point where some people send straight hate instead of listing anything of value

Let me get this straight, the @nytimes.com won't report on credible rape allegations, but will fire a romance novel critic of [checks notes] CRITICISM of the Time's refusal to report on credible rape allegations.

Am I reading that correctly?
BREAKING: The New York Times fired a columnist because she reposted my Bluesky post!
My post was a repost-with-comment after @marisakabas.bsky.social questioned NYT's failure to report on a woman's on-the-record accusation that Trump raped her in 1993.
Honestly in shock.

@nytimes.com terminated the contract of romance fiction columnist Olivia Waite because she reposted on Bluesky criticism I and @markjacob.bsky.social had of the paper’s lack of coverage of the new rape allegations against Donald Trump.

Details and a statement from Olivia here:

this is a disgrace. Olivia is a gift to romance criticism, and she's done tremendous, consistent, interesting work for the NYT over the last several years. a loss for book criticism, and an embarrassment to the paper of record.

If you repost someone else’s mild criticism of the New York Times from the left, you will be fired.

If you attack them from the right, they’ll probably give you a columnist gig
Waite tells @smartbitches.bsky.social that she received an email from Tina Jordan, editor of the Book Review, “saying that Olivia’s clear sentiments about the Times mean that the paper is no longer a good fit for her column.”

This was what Waite reposted:

Hey, NY Times assistant managing editor @patrickhealynyt.bsky.social,
You invited me to a video chat a few weeks ago because you said the Times wanted to hear serious criticism of its coverage. Then the Times cancels the contract of a columnist because she reposted my Bluesky post criticizing you?

whether or not leaders are capable of rolling their eyes and blowing off bad-faith or misinformed criticism or better still, welcoming good-faith criticism without necessarily capitulating is in fact a very good measurement of whether or not they're emotionally mature enough to wield it responsibly

The New York Times Is Simply Not A Credible Newspaper
The paper fired a columnist for the "crime" of simply reposting valid criticism of the paper's refusal to cover a new and credible Trump rape accusation.

that's nonsense.

She's a romance fiction critic who simply reposted a rather staid criticism of the paper.
November 3, 2026 at 8:58 PM
Criticism can exist to entertain, and can bring new perspectives to a thing.

If you think media criticism only exists to guide purchase decisions then that’s an extremely narrow view of what the function of criticism is.
October 31, 2026 at 9:36 PM
like, there's not criticism to say, beyond "I want you in jail"
November 4, 2026 at 3:34 AM
Because any criticism of the "bosses" is one criticism too much.
November 3, 2026 at 5:50 PM
Her repost of a mild criticism of the Times's journalistic choices does not imply any bias on her part in reviewing romance on a contract basis.

It's just retaliation.

yeah if there's one thing politicians demonstrably do, it's bow to criticism once they've been elected
