This spiny shrub is #Cryptandra arbutiflora, a common species in the southwest that gets covered in this tiny tubular flowers! The genus Cryptandra gets its name for their anthers being hidden by their hooded petals

#Cryptandra tomentosa! This plant is in the #Rhamnaceae family, with its genus name referring to its anthers being hidden by hood-shaped petals. Unfortunetly, the specimen I had to photograph weren’t very fresh so this is a species I’ll need to come back to in the future.

Hidden anthers and Hooded petals! Cryptandra myriantha in bloom atm! These plants have modified petals that are hooded over the anthers making them hidden from view, which is how they get their name! This is a very widespread WA species, from Kalbarrie all the way to Cape Arid NP!

The generic epithet means “hidden man”, referring to the stamens.
