🌳 4 new phyla added in v7:

• Arthropoda (Copepoda)
• Chaetognatha (Sagittoidea)
• Cryptista (Cryptomonada)
• Ctenophora (Tentaculata/Nuda)

Biggest expansions in existing groups: Nematoda, Cnidaria & Chaetognatha.

Splice Leader (SL) Sequences Across Eukaryotes – Curated Reference Table V7
This dataset compiles experimentally validated splice leader (SL) sequences from diverse eukaryotic taxa, providing a comparative reference for studies on trans-splicing and RNA processing. Version 7 represents a major update from v3 (January 2025), nearly doubling the number of entries from 112 to 210 sequences (+98 entries, +87%).Taxonomic coverage has been significantly expanded to now include 11 phyla: Euglenozoa, Nematoda, Platyhelminthes, Cnidaria, Rotifera, Chordata, Alveolata, and four newly added phyla — Arthropoda (Copepoda), Chaetognatha (Sagittoidea), Cryptista (Cryptomonada), and Ctenophora (Tentaculata/Nuda). The largest expansions were in Nematoda, Cnidaria, and Chaetognatha. The dataset schema was restructured to improve phylogenetic resolution, replacing the single "Family" field with a two-level "Phylum / Subgroup" classification. A formal SL sequence naming convention was introduced, with 170 of 210 entries carrying standardized identifiers. Each entry includes the SL sequence (5' to 3'), sequence length, primary literature reference (DOI and PMID), and contributor information.

Арт-трейднулася з cryptista (з тіктоку). Дуже приємна та талановита художниця, тож варто заглянути в її тікток.
Ну бо, просто гляньте які Марті та Віл пуськами вона намалювала🥺❤️‍🔥

The morphology and small subunit rDNA gene phylogeny of the novel goniomonad genus Ebisugoniomonas and two novel Poseidogoniomonas species
Goniomonads are heterotrophic representatives of Cryptista, sister lineage to the phototrophic Cryptists. Goniomonads are morphologically and genetically diverse, comprising nine genera described so f...

There is a very ancient split between planty stuff & animals+fungi.

Amoebas more closely related to plants usually resemble Rhizarians

Amoebas most closely related to animals usually resemble Amoebozoans (including macrophage immune cells inside your body)

(Discoban amoebas are weird)

Protista & its variants (Protozoa, etc) are obsolete. They were temporary junk bins before we had the molecular data to sort eukaryotes into natural evolutionary groups. In my opinion, the current scientific & educational value of groupings like Protista is dubious at best.

there's no way in hell a brown seaweed would be related to a slime mold, let alone the unicellular ancestors of animals

we should stop calling plasmodium a protozoan
