just remembering: i knew some guys who worked for olbermann's currentTV (remember that?) show and he would reportedly excoriate the producers frequently for how short staffed and shoestring the show was (it was short staffed because they had spent like 80% of their yearly budget on keith's salary)

MSNBC isn't even the best of examples because they've demonstrated how finger-in-the-wind their actual political positioning is. CurrentTV was meant to be unabashed left-wing TV and fell through the same way Air America did: the audience just isn't there on our side the way the right loves Fox

Dems don't have the endless billionaire support $ that the GOP ever has.
On top of that, the Dem base isn't animated in the same way the GOP's is, as when left-leaning media options like Air America and CurrentTV were tried, they eventually couldn't get an audience to keep investments flowing

In the mid 00s my company was in the same building as CurrentTV in SF. Al Gore was involved and would come by now and then. I rode the elevator once with him and he was taller than I thought... One of our guys once shouted at him across the street “peace out y’all!” from Futurama, and he got it. 👍

CurrentTV and Air America were ahead of their time. As recent as 10 years ago, most people left of center viewed the mainstream media as centrist. Now that most media outlets are moving quickly to the right, there is an opening for a true left-wing outlet, IMO.
