I have NEVER, in more than a decade in this field, heard of the Board of Immigration Appeals deciding a complex case like this in 24 hours. And neither has Charles Adkins-Blanch, who served on the Board for two decades, and knows its processes inside and out.

This whole thing STINKS to high heaven.

Reagan, suffering from dementia in his second term, received the Lebanese foreign minister in the Oval Office. Reagan asked no questions as the the minister briefed him at length about the difficult security situation there. Reagan finally spoke: you know, your nose looks just like Danny Thomas's.

Q: Did you see any footage of the protest against your visit in Dublin and what do you make of it?

TRUMP: I don't know. You know, You remind me of somebody. A very cute Irish singer who passed away recently. You know who that is? Sinead! You look like Sinead O'Connor. That's a compliment.

Gift link. — The NYT has started giving me infinitely many free links, and I am terrified that they will somehow go away. I’m glad they stck around for this story, which is amazing.

Senior NIH official: “When the public hears that NIAID funds biodefence, they think we’re developing bioweapons, and we’re trying to get out of that business”

Only conspiracy nuts think the NIH develops bioweapons, but: moving these projects to the "Dept of War" will seem to *confirm* their belief.
The agreement was signed out of the public view a month ago by Pentagon official Robert Kadlec and NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya, echoing my reporting.

It establishes a 10-year framework that officially runs through September 30, 2036.
Revealed: inside the US military's plan to tap huge sums from the NIH
An agreement paves the way for hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of projects to be transferred from the NIH’s institute for infectious diseases to the Department of Defense.

For many years, ICE didn't have its own medical claims processing for detainees, running 3rd party medical bills through the VA's system. Last year, right-wing influencers convinced the Trump admin to abruptly cancel this contract. With no replacement, ICE specialized medical care has gone unpaid.

Yet another issue where every single person who touched it needs to end up in jail for us to have any semblance of the rule of law. You cannot have a functional democracy where the government creates a plan to literally throw away votes from places that don't support the incumbent party.
This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.

I never got over flicking through a Very Man Coded Thriller while shelving fiction in a bookshop and seeing that in the front, instead of a dramatis personae or a family tree or even an endpaper map, it had a page entitled GUNS AND CARS USED IN THIS BOOK.

The real problem in selling galaxies, the challenge for the salesperson and for the responsible buyer, is the lack of recent photos. All these pictures I have show what the galaxies looked like billions of years ago!

Things To Do With Potatoes

Throw a potato on the ground behind a stranger, then say "Excuse me, you've dropped your potato!". If they deny ownership, pull another potato from your pocket, saying "Well it's definitely not my one".

Hide a potato in a pair of shoes at a bowling alley.

I’m surprised by how little attention this case has gotten. Even I didn’t really register it for a while. This entire family of three permanent residents were summarily detained without even the option of bond, all as collective punishment for one one of them being the son of an Iranian official
Today in @thenation.com: a harrowing piece written from inside the Dilley ICE detention center by Maryam Tahmasebi, a green card holder who's been locked up along with her husband and son for months despite none of them committing any crime. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
