Ships in orbit are always depicted as facing their direction of motion, like a car moving in a roundabout. But an orbit is free, you can orient yourself however you like, and it would make more sense to always be facing the planet with your view screen, primary comms, etc

ROME, 30/09/2026 - NaviGate, an Italian space technology company spun out of Sapienza University of Rome, has successfully completed the in-orbit demonstration (IoD) of NaviCode Caravel, its autonomous onboard precise orbit determination software, aboard an ION Satellite Carrier operated by D-Orbit. During the demonstration, NaviCode Caravel ran directly on the satellite’s onboard computer, computing the spacecraft’s position in real time using only the raw data of the GNSS receiver already onboard, with no additional hardware.
