A bit of a tangent from this, but for years some experimentalists at DAMOP had a running joke that we needed a Journal of I Swear I Thought That Would Work: the obvious approaches that you learn are fatally flawed in a non-obvious way after months when you talk to someone else who tried it earlier.
Sociologists/historians of science: one thing that would be cool is, like, a big book of failure (besides my autobiography wahay!!!!) - like, detailed accounts of research programmes that failed, approaches that didn't work out. Does this exist?

Those are two of the three times I've been to Charlottesville, VA. Third was for the DAMOP meeting, and that time I wound up staying in a motel with no elevator. Probably for the best.

It was also great to catch up with former Brown lab members and pleased to go to session where the speaker ( Evan Reed, now at IonQ) and the chair (Brian McMahon, now at GTRI) were both once undergrads who worked with me at Georgia Tech.
