So I am eternally grateful for DAoC and anyone who ever played it because that gave so many of of us a chance to learn, experiment, and prove ourselves.
You can still play it today, which is honestly a bit of a miracle considering how ephemeral much of this industry has become.

25 years ago today, we launched Dark Age of Camelot. It was the first game I worked on as a (professional) developer.
I made friends at Mythic that are still important parts of my life today and as time has worn on, I’ve come to regard those years as some of the best of my career.

Wasn’t DAoC the one whose rule set was based on Rolemaster? I never got to play it, but RM is my favorite RPG system.

DAoC ensured I was a fan of MMOs for the rest of my life. I went on to play WoW, Trion, Warhammer: Online, Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy XIV, and many, many more.
It was the first game that I got to play with my family, rather than just watching them play the game.

It felt brief at the time, but seems miraculously stable and long-lived given the modern state of things.

DAoC was such a special game to me and was the closest analogue to a MUD in MMO form to me. Shadowbane and WAR (Warhammer Online) both had similar, experimental vibes. They were all PvP focused but the myriad ways people could interact in their settings was so cool. Games connecting people rule.

Dark Age of Camelot is a 3D medieval fantasy MMORPG that combines Arthurian lore, Norse mythology and Irish Celtic legends with a dash of high fantasy. It is set in the period after King Arthur's death and his kingdom has split into three parts which are in a constant state of war with each other. DAoC includes both PvE and RvR combat, players can choose to adventure alone or join groups to get completion of credit in large-scale PvE encounters and for communication purposes in RvR.

🎮 25th: Dark Age of Camelot
Going to WoW after DAoC seemed like a step backward. At the time it just felt like DAoC had so much to offer and was creating new aspects of the game. of course, adding housing kills a lot of games despite it being a most often "wanted".

Marathon was actually just caught between wanting to be two games. Original creative director wanted something like DAoC but moneymans wanted Tarkov, but sci-fi.
