not many people talk about the prejudice directed at mad people. the way we were treated on Darug Ngurra by other trans people was appalling.
there was exoticism and fetishisation, cruel mockery, and psychiatric flattening,, not to mention tender condescension.

there is only one tenuous connection

Ahh, my mistake! My beta reader is actually based in Western Sydney, so that’s much closer to what you’re looking for. I can check with her about her specific Darug background/experience if that helps.

Warami, budyari mullinawul. I acknowledge the Darug and Gundungurra people who are the Traditional Custodians of the Land I live on.
I also pay respect to all Elders, past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people.

Delightful morning catching the new Mariyung train to work! Liking the accessibility and acknowledgement of country! I’ll have to try the USB charging and power sockets next time! Great to also see Transport executive walking the carriages, welcoming everyone and having a chat!

WalkSydney hosted a Sunday afternoon walk along the Cooks river between the Beamish Street pedestrian bridge and the Sugar Mill pedestrian bridge in Hulstone Park.  The area around Campsie, Sydney, NSW, was traditionally Wangal land, a clan of the Darug (or Dharug, Dharuk, Daruk) tribe or language group, who used the Cooks River for sustenance and had a deep connection to the land and its resources.
