DCASE just said “no other city is offering a concert like this all night for free” and I just have to point out the storied tradition of Nuit Blanche that happens in so many cities (and used to happen in Chicago).

Happy Maxwell Street Market day, Chicago!
In 1994, the market was relocated by the city to Canal Street to much outcry from vendors.
The market reopened at its historic location in 2024, and is now operated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).

I called my alder’s office and they said to attend a special events committee meeting to give public comment, speak at a full council meeting general public comment, or send an email to dcase@cityofchicago.org.
That was like a full sustained minute of ear-splitting jet noise, twice. Move the goddamn air show to Lake Geneva or something I cannot take this anymore.

emailing the DCASE office just in case that actually works.
Fuck the Air and Water Show. Literally everyone in Chicago fucking hates it. It’s such a fucking nuisance and waste of money.

If for some reason replacing the elevator on the southwest corner of Michigan Ave & Randolph St isn't workable, then Metra/South Shore Line/Etc. need to contract with DCASE to build new elevators in Millennium Park.

There is already an existing emergency exit stairway here!

There have been a bunch of things with questionable funding, where naming rights have been given to corporations. But I can't find anything about a sale. Maybe DCASE contracts the ops to a private company?
August 9, 2026 at 3:01 PM
From what I could scrounge up, it looks like DCASE runs it instead of parks, but it's still public? Maybe I'm looking at out of date info.

Frustrated about the bike parking sitch at Millennium Park? A source at CDOT says don't blame them. "CDOT doesn’t have any jurisdiction over the MP Bike Station anymore. It, and Millennium Park in general, is managed by DCASE."

Bad: Millennium Park Bike Station, Chicago's only public indoor bike parking facility, became police-only post-COVID.

Awful: Its plaza is now locked, and the *outdoor* parking (I designed) is gone! There wasn't neatly enough bike parking last night. - JG
