D-Day took place on June 6, 1944. It occurred 82 years ago. I can’t tell you what a humbling honor it is to fellowship with this generation every day. Remember what they done without hesitation. A large swath of them not even 20 yrs old yet. 🇺🇸 #HonorThem #NeverForget #Dday82

In the 1980s my Dad, a #WW2 veteran, compiled a Normandy Roll of Honour by analysing the CWGC registers manually: it took him years! Using his work these are some of the highest losses among British & Canadian units that day. These figures are for the dead only. #DDay82

#DDay82: When I visited Normandy for the first time in 1979 with my Dad we met Major John Howard DSO outside the Gondrée Café. By this time 81 years ago he and his men had taken the key bridges and the code words Ham & Jam signalling their capture filled the radio network.

The Day of Days approaches: on this night in 1944, in the final moments before heading to Normandy, 22nd Independent Company officers from 6th Airborne synchronise their watches. On the Left: Captain Robert de Lautour (possibly the first man to land, killed 20 June 1944) #DDay82

Thank you to John Healey and Lord (Vernon) Coaker for your presence at DDay82 at the British Normandy Memorial. We honoured the memory of Lord Coaker’s uncle, Sgt Vernon Coaker, killed on 6 June 1944 at the age of 23, and that of all his comrades who fell under British command in the 1944 battles.

To mark the 82nd anniversary of D-Day here is a King George VI postbox in Oxford. I have the great honour of gardening for one of the last D-Day Veterans, Peter Lovett aged 101, pictured centre with the late Lee Wrake and Cliff Brown in 2015. #PostboxSaturday #DDay82 🥰📮🎖️🌹

#DDay82: In the years and months leading up to D Day, Allied planners had a steady stream of human intelligence from networks run by SIS/MI6 and it's allies, from beach defences and AA/radar sites to troop movements, adding to the all-source picture before Allied troops landed.

On the morning of 6th June 1944, the 6th Green Howards landed on the #Normandy beaches.

Among them, the battalion padre, Rev Henry Lovegrove. A man who, on D-Day and beyond, gave active service.
