The rain’s coming. 🌧️

Before it does:

🍂 Clear the gutters
💧 Check the downpipes
🔍 Look for dripping joints
🛠️ Deal with small leaks

A little autumn prep now can prevent a lot of hassle later.

My experience is that any sub with more than about 200,000 subscribers is a cesspit, and some smaller ones too if the mods are not up to the task. These numbers are old, but more or less anything at the top of this list is full of hate, conspiracy theories and people confidently talking nonsense.

Our sash windows are on what you would call the second story so we can’t easily do screens, will probably do either blinds that drop like this or just ones that go out the top and in the bottom. Long term I want automated metal roller shades but there may be planning questions to deal with (& cost!
From the DIYUK community on Reddit: Built myself some external blinds to save the doggo from the heat, 4-5c cooler indoors!!

In Shaun's case in the UK all AC is hard to get for now.
The dual hose options never existed anyway (DIYUK subreddit has been full of people modding the single hose ones). We don't have the windows for window units. There's a planning limit of 1/2 external units so tricky if we want one for water.

Sort of thing you’d see posted on r/DIYUK with the title “should I ask them to come back to make right?”
Everyone is talking about Trump’s mock up arch at the Great American State Fair, so I filmed it from top to bottom and front to back for everyone who can’t see it in person.

According to /r/DIYUK, not even my window AC unit is good enough, and I need to think about getting into two-hose action 🥵

There are lots of temporary DIY solutions/bodges on the diyuk Reddit forum to temporarily block the window and have the hose exit through whatever you are using to block the window. Some are a beautiful testament to human ingenuity.

They're becoming more common, most heat pumps are to replace boilers for radiators.
You can now get diy ones that dont require an f-gas cert to install

People in the UK install mini splits as well, case in point (not me) - it cost the poster 600 pounds when they bought it last year:
