True, though I found this neat program called Shutter Encoder that lets me convert to DNxHD and import to Davinci! It's honestly awesome!

Pieni oppimiskäyrä mut outoa kyllä Blender on aika hyvä videoeditoinnissakin ja: Blender uses FFmpeg for video codecs on Linux, supporting common ones like H.264 (AVC), ProRes, DNxHD, VP9 (WebM), and MPEG-4, often within containers like MP4 or MKV,

```
function dvr_conv() {
ffmpeg -i "${1}" -c:v dnxhd -profile:v dnxhr_hq -pix_fmt yuv422p -c:a pcm_s16le output_dvr.mov
}
```
Básicamente convierte a DNxHD, que es lo que usa resolve en Linux (por algún motivo)
Aviso que ocupan un poco de más.

My evenings have been preoccupied with the intricacies of video editing, mostly with Da Vinci Resolve and not recognizing .mp4 files. VLC and Handbrake didn't work for me.

Claude.AI and ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v dnxhd -profile:v dnxhr_hq -pix_fmt yuv422p -c:a pcm_s16le output.mov

ok so for some reason i need to transcode this file into dnxhd which is fine but that means going from 33gb -> ~400-500gb as an intermediary and *then* running it through qtgmc. waiting for my HDD to get done reallocating data so I can make a 900gb NTFS partition on it and try again
i wanna bash my head into a wall, all i want is a beautiful deinterlaced video file. why is this so difficult

kurde podoba mi się Resolve, ale fakt, że na linuchu wybrzydza formaty, i scrubbing dobrze mi działa tylko na dnxhd trochę boli
(for context, to ten sam filmik, tylko w dnxhd i h264)
Nawet nie boli rozmiar, tylko długie konwertowanie
Żeby nie było, Kdenlive też musi sobie przetranskodować więc 🤷‍♀️

I guess it's even best to deal with editing codecs in PPro...like ProRes or DNxHD/HR... so you don't need to cache, and so render times are faster.

it's not telecine, etc. but thanks, i was really hoping it was not interlacing to save myself the time from doing this but the moment i took a 3 minute clip, converted to dnxhd, re-ran it with the same params i was using before it was beautifully deinterlaced.
September 13, 2026 at 5:46 PM
but when i tested with dnxhd, it worked! i think it's because the framerate in the metadata is wrong and is showing the deinterlaced framerate but everything i've done to try to fix that results in a fucked up output or doubles the length of the input file.

Gonna try switching from Davinci Resolve to Kdenlive. Davinci's lack of H.264 export is an absolute joke, though re-encoding from DNxHD to H.264 in Handbrake is easy enough. It also has weird behavior clicking and dragging image files from Dolphin to the timeline, and the color picker doesn't work.

There's a ton of shit I complain about in modern tech stacks, for a lot of reasons.

But honestly, yeah, DNxHD is just a quite good video codec that does what it is supposed to do, does it well, and has wide support. It is nice to be reminded every once in a while that software can be... good.

also unrelated to the iPod but I use davinci resolve to fuck around with and while Linux supports resolve (thank u black magic) I would need to convert my h264/aac video into DNxHD/ALAC which makes a 30min/1080p video go from 1gb to 100gb… so yeah… I just use windows for some things

Yeah, I can probably network it off the older machines. Much of the footage is old. It's DnXHD and I can work with it across the gig it network. The drives are TB 2 running through the apple C-type to Thunder adapters. They need to be replaced but who wants to spend the $$?

Oh that's so cool! I think in class we're doing a very similar process where we import the footage into resolve and input all the shot information and sync the sound then export it as a dnxhd file and bring it into Avid that way

Worried about Avid codecs on future macOS in future? @avid: [Apple’s] “announcement does not affect Pro Tools and Media Composer, any other products that have chosen to implement DNxHD and DNxHR natively […] or DNxHD/HR supported through MXF wrappers“
