The 5,000 jobs figure came from the developer. DSIT reused it for South Wales and scaled it down for Lanarkshire. A minister's own breakdown leaves about 40 operational jobs per data centre.

Re-engineering AI Procurement: How UK Policy Shifts Transformed Safety Guidance Into Software Supply Chain Liabilities + Video
Introduction: The UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) recently published its updated AI assurance guide and procurement toolkit, establishing a definitive framework to evaluate bias, model safety, and operational reliability across public sector suppliers. Although initially styled as administrative guidelines for Whitehall buyers, this framework fundamentally reallocates legal liabilities down the software supply chain by transforming voluntary safety recommendations into binding contract warranties.

Marginal update: we asked BIST what Reynolds meant about finding money from the DSIT budget for defence, and they said that further detail on defence investment will be set out at the autumn budget
Jonathan Reynolds told MPs he has “had to find” money from the former science department’s budget for the government’s defence package

The secretary of state was responding to a question about cost savings at major facilities funded by STFC

An interesting statement that “there is an element of funding for the defence package that we had to find from the former DSIT budget” & suggestion that this links to STFC. Definitely needs clarifying. How much? When?

Reynolds is in front of the BIST Cttee on Tues, and McDonald at S&T on Weds… 👀
