動く前提で、余ってたSSDを装着して、DVDROMの配線もしてセットし終わった。
で、起動してみると・・・あれ？・・・
毎回ハードウェア診断が走って、BIOS立ち上がるのに数分掛かって訳が分からない。
Linux入ってるUSBで立ち上げようとしても立ち上がらないし、こりゃメモリ死んでる？(←今ここ)(´A`)で止まってるorz
で、起動してみると・・・あれ？・・・

動く前提で、余ってたSSDを装着して、DVDROMの配線もしてセットし終わった。
で、起動してみると・・・あれ？・・・
毎回ハードウェア診断が走って、BIOS立ち上がるのに数分掛かって訳が分からない。

ouuuh rita reminded me i should refurbish my jasper 360.. easy enough to dust it, reapply thermal compound, fix the dvdrom and replace the shell. i should dust my power supply too since its historically my biggest problem (its actively cooled! it gets mega dusty in this house)

can't get the stupid flying vampire cow screensaver bc the dvdrom runs on flash and i'm not smart enough to bypass (if that's even possible) it 😔 i got out my ancient laptop for nothing

Even first DVDrom drives for PC had a dedicated MPEG2 decoder card (CPU's couldn't do it at the time.)

Right now, just a console with 1080p, no raytracing, just rastor is enough as most TV's do decent upscaling to 2160p anyways with not much lag.
And with that you could fit games on a DVDRom easily, keep RAM and all down to 4-8gb including for the GPU and be much cheaper than say PS5, PS6.

AFAIK, all the iMacs of 1998-1999 vintage came with a CDROM only.

Testing my frankenstein'd PC for ripping DVDs and CDs.
The SATA DVDROM drive is broken so that'll have to go. The SATA DVD burner works fine and is set region 1. Will test the IDE DVD burner (set to region 2) and CDRW drive later.
So far: great success!

I mean, call me crazy, but I like dRM that DOESN'T break my computer or make the game run like crap
But I've literally had StarForge brick a DVDRom drive back when those were expensive peripherals so I'm biased ;)

we only sold CD's when my wife and i combined collections to remove the duplicates. there was a handful.
currently like 2000cd in our livingroom/hall way.
DVD player that i use for CD's in the living room
and a standalone CD player in my office
and i still have a DVDrom drive i use to burn CDs

The classic dvdrom+cdrw+zip setup, still white beige instead of black so to mot gum up/jam moving parts, cuz nothing came in black back then... I was also super jealous of the dudes who had actual artistic skills that could do badass side panel cut outs lol. Nice work tho... 2002? 2003?
