One year later…
First Comics has picked up the metaphorical Nexus publishing baton, and new readers entering this middle part of a three issue storyline are gifted a four page recap detailing the major plot points up until now. Then a few pages later, Baron tells us where we are headed. #dailyNexus

Nexus and Judah are trapped on the other side of a black hole on an artificial world… and run into Badger of all people.

I love this paper quality, the coloring looks phenomenal on it. Check out the sound f/x on this interior page. It’s so artistic, I am curious if Rude drew it as well. #dailyNexus

The mystery of what supplies Nexus with his power continues, and is contrasted against the drain the severed head population creates pulling from stars. But check out that striking cover and the coloring on the interior page. This is just a gorgeous book all around. #dailyNexus

Judah the Hammer gets the bright idea to take Nexus on a drinking man’s tour of the galaxy. And I continue to be impressed with Rude’s art, and even more so, his story-telling. Look how he both creates and ignores panel borders here using Gladys. Yet the reader’s eye flows unerringly. #dailyNexus

Beautifully choreographed fight sequence between Sundra and Ursula. And I only noticed one odd story transition. But we also see our first creative shake up, colorist George Freeman (who did an outstanding job last issue) has been replaced by Les Dorschied who does nice work here. #DailyNexus

I didn’t initially want to share this page as it spoils a bit about Judah this early in the run. But I also felt it was the best of the issue, particularly the way Rude has Judah detach his head from the collar and plunge into the tank, splashes breaking the panel border. #dailyNexus

The ad first appeared in Issue #1 of this color series, and I love that. I’m assuming they had strong fan reaction to the three black-and-white magazine sized comics, but it was still a pretty confident move to start a Nexus fan club this early. 

Blue blazes! This first issue is jam packed with a ton of story. It’ll be interesting to watch the evolution, Mike Baron has an engaging story and Steve Rude’s art is already superb, but I noticed several odd transitions. I expect the two were young and still evolving as storytellers? #DailyNexus

Reading “The Original Nexus” again before finally diving into the ongoing series tomorrow morning. This graphic novel reprints the three magazine sized issues published by Capital Comics, before restarting with a new #1 at standard size. First Comics took over publishing with Nexus #7. #DailyNexus
