…I couldn’t match it to a British species so I contacted @britishbugs.bsky.social. After looking at the specimen he identified it as Nabis capsiformis. It’s documented by Tristan at www.britishbugs.org.uk/HetNews/HetN... and really piqued an interest in Hemiptera for me. (2 of 2)

An adult Tree Damsel Bug (Himacerus aperus) sheltering among the leaves of a Norway maple sapling. This is a flightless bug that lives on aphids, mites and other small invertebrates. This specimen is a female.

There were also clusters of aphids on Broom, in this case Aphis cytisorum, again heavily ant-attended. There were several Broom Leaf Beetles, Gonioctena olivacea and what I think is the macropterous form of Tree Damsel Bug, Himacerus apterus.
Dark grey aphids clustered around Broom shoots, attended by lots of orangey ants. A pale-orange leaf beetle pointing downwards on a Broom stem. A reddish-brown coloured, fully-winged Damselbug facing downwards on a Broom stem.

There was also a nice set of heathland specialists recorded at Cooper’s Hill on 8th March, including Kleidocerys ericae at its only current Bedfordshire site, the groundbug Scolopostethus decoratus and the Heath Damselbug, Nabis ericetorum
A slide about the groundbug Scolopostethus decoratus in bedfordshire, the text reads "Five species of Scolopostethus have been recorded in Bedfordshire, all of which are small ground bugs with keeled sides to the pronotum, which also has a large pale spot in the middle. Scolopostethus decoratus has the antennae entirely darkened, with the exception of the base of the second segment. It does not have the curved tubercles on the underside of the abdomen found in S.affinis and S.grandis. A local species of heathland areas along the Greensand Ridge, always found in association with Heather."
