Algorithmic bias is rarely a technical bug; it is an evidentiary mirror of historical systemic disparities codified into training distributions. Correcting it requires structural intervention, not cosmetic re-weighting.

Almost no African GDP or population data is reliable. The world's poorest continent is statistically invisible - which makes it easy to ignore and easy to exploit. #Africa #DataJustice #Inequality https://www.worldeconomics.com/Thoughts/Africas-Data-Quality-Problem.aspx
Africa’s Data Quality Problem - Insights & Data from World Economics
African GDP and Population data are both of very poor quality. Governance is also rated as being very poor, with many autocratic rulers interfering with economic data quality. Only 4% of African countries are rated as having A or B grade GDP data. Only 13% applies for Population data. 13% are also rated as having A or B grade Governance. And only six of the top ten largest (by GDP) sub-Saharan countries are rated as having C grade data. In these circumstances World Economics believes pan-African GDP or Population size, or measures such as GDP per Capita or Debt per Capita that dependent on either GDP or Population data, should be treated with circumspection. 37% of Asian countries have unreliable GDP data. Poor communities are invisible in the statistics. When data is bad, the vulnerable are always the ones left out. #Asia #DataJustice #Inequality https://www.worldeconomics.com/Thoughts/What-Percent-of-Your-Portfolio-Should-be-Asian-Day2.aspx
What Percent of Your Portfolio Should be Asian?: A review of Asian GDP Data Quality Ratings - Insights & Data from World Economics
As noted in our review of - Asian Governance - , Asian GDP is bigger than that of Europe, the Americas and Africa combined. Asia accounts for well over half of global GDP. And Asian GDP growth has accounted for 70% of global growth over the past decade. So, shouldnt Asia comprise 50%+ of your investments by value? - - Probably not. The problem with Asia is that this vast geographical space (however defined) includes many countries you probably wouldnt want to live in, and on whose data you cannot rely. This Thought reviews the lack of accurate GDP data in parts of Asia. World Economics defines - GDP Data Quality - using 5 measures. - - The table below shows Asian countries Data Quality Indexes split into 5 Ratings segments. Every time you buy something with a card, walk with your phone, or search for a word, that action gets translated into data. The article by Moraes & Sousa (2026) argues that translation is never neutral — it carries the values of whoever designed the system.
