Heck, I don't even use datamerge in InDesign or whatever. Anyways, what I do know, is that the creative power of the people we at Flatout Games have had the privilege of working with is so immense. I love every minute of the process of making games and the relationships formed in doing it together.

I’ve spent the morning (unsuccessfully) trying to get Affinity to do a double-sided datamerge.
I’m taking a break now to do some editing on Escape the Apocalypse so that I can tackle the data merge with a clear head later today.

XMF does not support anything but a front/back laydown for having multiple-up on a sheet for variable jobs. No dutch cuts either, apparently, which I guess is good to know.
But after spending 3 hours exporting single page pdfs from InDesign with DataMerge, I didn't want to go back.

For what I use it for, which is game design, they made a couple of tweaks to datamerge which was very nice, but not necessary. Tablet versions are cool and have nice shortcuts that I don't think were in v1. So it's nice but not essential imo.

The only g*ddamn solution: remake the InDesign document so that the page size is 11x17 and place the pages in manually so pages 4&1 and 2&3 are on the same page, THEN export out of InDesign using DataMerge, THEN use the cut and stack options in XMF.

And yeah, you can make an extra page at the front to force the spreads to face each other and then you can move page 4 to by before page 1. But again, you can't only export pages 2-5 when using DataMerge.

You can kinda sorta get a pdf out of InDesign in printer spreads using the booklet printing functions, but guess what's incompatible with the DataMerge functions... anything that changes the page order or anything like that.
