Did u know?A great use of old branches is to make them into a dead hedge. I weave my old large branches into the fabric of my rose arch. It minimises trips to the tip & creates a handy cat barrier,allowing birds to feed safely on seed we put down. Go on,go weave. It's fun to do too #deadhedge 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🐦⬛

I found my very first morel, and I wasn't even looking for any!
I was moving sticks in the back of the yard, working on a deadhedge, and clearing some space for planting a vegetable garden, and there it was!

I had raked out the leaves and dumped them on the deadhedge because
1. They likely have some lesser celandine bulblets mixed in, and the LC came from that property anyway.
2. I need to see all the little sprouts so I can treat them this year.
I expect the deadhedge will remain a quarantine zone

This won't mean a thing to anyone else, but this long stick has been hanging off the beech tree for about 7 years. It is quite a momentous occasion to find it has eventually dropped & I have rightfully places as the queen of sticks crowning the deadhedge. Thanks sticky, nice to eventually meet you.🌱

Off to plant stuff in the woods. Already planted several fragrant sumac to fill in as a thicket in front of the anti-deer-deadhedge today. Most of these are going in the clearing I'd been working on. Only PA #NativePlants get planted in the woodland.
