we should've stopped with DeepDream, a perfectly good AI that took your picture and filled it with fractals full of eyes
yes, just like the earlier versions of Midjourney from like 2022 actually produced some pretty interesting surreal images, while the more recent versions largely just produce profoundly boring smooth-edges clip art slop

nobody thought this would work. if we set DeepDream as the first real "generative" model, i was _baffled_ to see the first images, which were treated as a novelty on internal Google+.
it’s very telling how many of the people involved with AI research in the 20th century - most of whom seemed to have largely meant well - simply never seem to have thought about our current “ultra-rich sociopaths try to use AI tools to crush everyone else forever” scenario
Its okay guys the white men who stand to be trillionaires would never overhype the technology because that would be unethical
