$40tr of debt in your own f**king currency is not debt in any meaningful sense.

Another interesting fact about Africa, western media always portrays the continent in a negative way. The continent is $2 trillion in debt, and it is always labelled a debt crisis. The US is $40 trillion in debt and it’s never labelled a crisis. Funny that…

Totally disagree with your FT newsletter today
By 2011 the NHS was voted the most efficient health system in the world
We got the most bangs for bucks
Taxes don't fund public expenditure
Gvt's only constraint is real resources
Stop promoting the #DeficitMyth like Martin Wolf etc al at FT
Very good and reasonable thread. To be very clear, I don't think that the UK becoming more French in how it pays for healthcare will *reduce* overall costs. (Quite the reverse, actually.)
Always enjoy reading @stephenkb.bsky.social’s well-reasoned work in the FT. www.ft.com/content/27f6...

I’m more sceptical than he is that shifting to more co-payment for UK/NHS healthcare will make it more responsive or sustainable.

That's government 'debt' in the currency of which the gvt is the monopoly supplier (debt-free new $$, unlike private bank money/loans)

Taxpayer dollars is inaccurate, and fuels the narrative in favor of AUSTERITY. It is the phrase people who want to cut benefits to the people while lowering taxes for the rich use.

Preferable to use The People's Money.

Austerity arguments are made, consciously in bad faith, by elites wanting to keep the weak and poor weak and poor.
Elites want to vacuum the people's money into their pockets, not to spend it on the poor

(3/5) This has been the operational reality since the dollar floated in 1983 🗓️.
The real limit on what we can achieve isn't money—it's our available people, skills, and materials.
The question isn't "How do we pay for it?" but "Do we have the real resources to do it?" 🤔
