These firings just hit NIH's Roy Blunt Center for Alzheimer's and Related Dementias. Yes, you read that right. It's named after a GOP Senator.

Yesterday afternoon employees were informed of layoffs, including its highly-regarded incoming director. Details:

Important article. This center was taking new approaches to studying Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Everyone who knows someone with dementia is being hurt by Trump’s cuts to medical research. 🧪
Scoop --> Trump-Musk cuts just resulted in the firing of numerous top researchers at NIH's center for combating Alzheimer's, sources tell me. They predict big setbacks to fighting dementias.

This cause was once championed by *Republicans.*

Oops: Trump-Musk Cuts Just Wrecked an NIH Org Championed by GOPers
Republicans once lavished praise on an NIH center that deals with Alzheimer’s. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are hobbling it. What will they say now?

The Trump-Musk rationales for deep cuts to spending on medical research are an insultingly ridiculous farce. The firings at the NIH's Roy Blunt Center for Alzheimer's and Related Dementias really lay this all bare:

People are given REPEATED cognitive assessments when they are diagnosed with—or being evaluated for—progressive neurological conditions like dementias or the cognitive impact of other illnesses.

The repetition is meant to create a baseline and then assess ongoing performance against that baseline.

For Missouri folks fruitlessly calling their senators and reps, you can ask why Trump fired workers at Roy Blunt Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Research. #stl #kc #missouri
Awful: Numerous scientists and researchers were just fired at NIH's center for treating Alzheimer's, sources tell me. They fear Trump-Musk cuts could dramatically set back our ability to treat dementias.

🧪Not only does this shed light on the possible causes of some dementias, but it underlines the positive effects of vaccines.

The dramatic reduction in Dementia from the Shingrex vaccine is simply startling, @broadwaybabyto.bsky.social

The finding sheds new light upon the likely aetiology of some dementias. So much for those Pox Parties of yesteryear 😳
Vaccines really are amazing scientific accomplishments.

The shingles vaccines reduces risk of heart disease.

The HPV vaccine has made cervical cancer virtually obsolete.

We’re close to an mRNA vaccine for pancreatic cancer.

Science for the win!

I am hearing that there are efforts at NIH to un-fire maybe 150 people, potentially including the incoming director of the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias. No idea if that will work.
