Are these demographers in the room with us right now Matt?

If the reviewers are anonymous, how does Goodwin know that they are the world's best demographers?
Matt Goodwin says book contains "a few errors and typos" (+ at least a couple of mistaken direct quotes) as consequence of "publishing outside the woke publishing industry".

But he says he did manage to get his self-published book *anonymously* peer-reviewed. (That does sound difficult to organise)

Also using these data: political scientists, sociologists, education researchers, demographers…
Trump admin eliminating access to many microdata sets that economists use

Probably not intentional, just the bumbling fumbles of unqualified appointees

Effect is the same

Next up on my reading list: the academic-demographers case for pronatalism.

Will this book finally convince me that the “population cliff” is not a fake crisis?

Will I completely hate the book?

We’ll see!

Births in the U.S. increased by just 1% in 2024, according to the CDC, remaining in a historical slump that worries demographers and cultural critics. Much of the long-term trend can be attributed to the substantial reductions in teenage pregnancies over the last several decades.

So those “demographers and cultural critics” would prefer more teenage pregnancies? These people are sick.

To be clear, this is not a new thing. It's one of the largest ongoing difficulties in census research not only in the US, but in basically every nation around the world; demographers are CONSTANTLY noting in their census analyses that they're virtually guaranteed to have undercounted minorities.

In the before times, marketers and demographers had to dream up demographic categories based on limited data and run focus groups to figure out how to maximize revenue from each market segment.

While we talk about the boom as encompassing 1946 to 1964, demographers note that it really began mid-1946 and ended mid-1964. Harris, born in Oct 1964, can therefore fairly be described as Gen X.
Kamala Harris is technically a boomer but her levels of earnest cringe would make her the nation's first millennial president in spirit

The baby boom lasted 19 years and despite Derek's deciding a year or two ago that a mid-war bump should count as part of the boom, various actual demographers have decided that it shouldn't.
People are pointing out that this analysis is obviously stupid but have you considered four generic defensible claims?
