#Denitrification
The backstage story is fascinating: 23 million litres of artificial seawater, industrial-scale filtration and ozone, nitrate problems, denitrification, and some very interesting chemistry.

There are even peer-reviewed papers on it. I may write it up properly if I get time.

#Denitrification affects nutrient cycling, water purification and the global nitrogen budget in wetlands. Research has found that both direct and indirect effects of wetland plants contribute significantly to denitrification.

The state-sponsored answer is apparently building artificial wetlands and denitrification structures. Sure. It's not like regular wetlands already do that stuff for free if you don't put cows in them.

While higher level taxonomy failed to produce a fire-specific signature, divergence in the microbial communities was observed at both the gene and genome level. In particular the genetic potential for denitrification drastically decreased. 🧵

Developers and board clash over sidewalk costs while denitrification and water concerns complicate 809 Sandwich Rd review
At a continued comprehensive-permit hearing for 809 Sandwich Road, board members pressed the developer to pay for a long‑listed sidewalk to the athletic fields; the applicant cited a DPW estimate near $500,000 and said project economics make an upfront payment difficult. The hearing remained open for further negotiation and peer-review follow-up.

Fossil foraminifera indicate tropical Atlantic nitrogen fixation was lower in the warm late Pliocene. Pacific denitrification also weakened, potentially limiting the phosphorus that fuels fixation. doi.org/hcjr6b
Fossil plankton shells reveal reduced nitrogen fixation in warmer oceans 3 million years ago
Nitrogen is a key nutrient because it fuels the growth of plankton, which forms the basis of the marine food web. Two opposing processes determine the global nitrogen cycle: nitrogen fixation and denitrification.

Or, hear me out, read the paper. If you have any questions you want answered, reach out to the authors.

Also, suppliments are good. Found a far better graph than one in a paper once. Included a time factor when showing the development of Nitrous oxide and Atmospheric Nitrogen from denitrification.
This is the future of scientific papers.

Instead of a PDF, the paper is an AI agent that you can talk to, ask questions, run analyses.

No more digging through supplements - just ask the paper directly: "what p-value cutoff was used in Fig 3B? Re-run at 0.01."

Town health agent: new rules mean denitrification required for most new construction in nitrogen-sensitive areas
Town health agent Scott McGann told the Zoning Board of Appeals that Falmouth has 14 nitrogen-sensitive watersheds and a Board of Health regulation now requires nitrogen-removal systems for new construction in those areas; he said sewering and denitrification will both be needed to meet DEP targets.

New Research Reveals the Complex Climate Benefits of Iowa’s Restored Wetlands
Our latest webinar featured Jonathan D. Norton, a Ph.D. candidate in environmental science at Iowa State University, who shared exciting research on the role restored wetlands play in both nutrient reduction and greenhouse gas dynamics. While wetlands are widely recognized for their ability to remove nitrate from agricultural water through denitrification, Jonathan highlighted an important challenge: when denitrification is incomplete, it can produce nitrous oxide (N₂O), a potent greenhouse gas.
