Dermacentor variabilis "American Dog Tick" at left, Amblyomma americanum "Lone Star Tick" at right
Both are male, I believe - neat to see them both on the same bit of grass 🤩

This is part of "Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers" by Diderot & d'Alembert (ca. 1795). Probably you can see a Dermacentor (center), may be an Ixodes (right) and I think a Psoroptes (left).

This is the first time seeing one of these. I've only seen the Lone star tick over years of living here.
Doused in rubbing alcohol, secured between scotch tape & disposed into the trash. Ugh!

A #microCT scan of a female American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis). Very pleased by how well this sample fixed and stained (fixed in ethanol, stained in 0.5% iodine) - turns out tick cuticle appears to be very porous! The high surface area to volume ratio also helped I'm sure.

Creo que no tenéis una idea clara de lo que puede suponer una picadura de garrapata. Esta es la cabeza de un niño, en las montañas del Levante español, con una úlcera tras la picadura y transmisión de Rickettsia. Lo que se ve "al fondo" es el hueso. Por favor, protegeos en el campo.

You have loads of Dermacentor andersonii, and some others. Only Ixodes spp can transmit Lyme disease. But Dermacentor can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever, which can kill you dead

Could be Dermacentor reticulatus. I'm not sure if this feeds on humans though. Unfortunately that website seems to have some didgy info about chronic lyme and unsourced claims that current tests are unreliable or don't tell people what they want en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermace...
