A snag (standing dead tree) reflects off the blue sky-water at Derrynane, Kerry.
In so many ways, dead trees are no less ecologically vital than their living equivalents, providing habitat for a great range of species (called saproxylics).
They're also often very beautiful.

@wildderrynane.bsky.social is a wonderful fellow nature-loving Dub, now friend, who's lived just across the water on the Iveragh Peninsula for decades.
A few months ago he gave me three sessile oaks he'd grown from wild Derrynane acorns, and I planted them all near the house.
I'll watch them grow.
