Why do I avoid making predictions?
In 2004, I noted at work that I thought the polls were exaggerating Bush's lead and Kerry would make it closer than we thought. And it *was* closer than predicted but Kerry lost. The day after, a senior colleague greeted me in the hallway with "YOU WERE WRONG!"

El-Sayed was captain of his high school football team and I'm obliged to note this sort of obvious lying isn't new at all, which is why we had to hear about George W Bush the war hero (never deployed, went AWOL from TANG) and John Kerry the coward (Silver Star, Bronze Star, 3 Purple Hearts).

Has this been true at all post-Kerry?
It seems to me the problem is part of a larger issue: the widening partisan gap means that the old pipeline of Democrats to Republicans is breaking. It used to be that conservative Democrats could transition to liberal Republicans pretty easily because there was less distance there. Not so anymore!
