#Descoping
I've pretty much resounded to self funding + descoping as a way to get my games made.

I think even if I did have financial success to make the next thing, contracting part time is still a sensible thing to do
Nova Assembly head Denis Federov says indie studios should look at alternatives to publishers. "Even experienced publishers are struggling to support independent projects. They prefer to play it safe and invest in projects with proven metrics and audiences" https://bit.ly/4AC8XoC

Gotta say that descoping Caltrains frequency increases seems bonkers in our current context.

Over the past 30 years, the North American planning regime has been dominated by a series of reactions to continuously rising costs - mainly by descoping.

Rather than question WHY costs are so high, we give up - and build smaller, less useful transit instead. 5/

to be absolutely clear, the only way you do it in 3 months is by descoping, which when you're replacing an existing system, is effectively experienced the same way as "it stopped working for me"

Canada is capable of doing great transit things (Vancouver SkyTrain, Montreal REM Line A) but is just as bad or worse as the US at fucking it in the stupidest ways possible (Toronto Metrolinx descoping GO expansion/electrification, Montreal REM de l'Est cancellation)
What's your hottest take about Canada?

For all the pressure and urgency of the work they dropped in my lap yesterday, business is now considering "descoping" some of the work and like?? Girl make up your mind. It would mean that I don't have to make a mad dash to get it all done, at least. We'll see.

Behind the scenes pitch for a feature in KOTC - where players would build a castle over multiple reigns.

Was cut in descoping, which now means there’s no castles in a game called “King of the Castle”. Woops.

The way Saint-Étienne modernized it's tram in the 1970s-2000s is a great lesson for cities like Toronto, Boston, Philly, San Francisco etc.

It's all there: circulation planning, new dedicated RoW, priority route with systematic descoping of lateral streets (RI-RO) etc.

You see this again and again. JPA management, limited staff capacity, patchwork grant programs -> budget overruns, longer timelines descoping, less service for riders in rapidly-growing areas. This time for Valley Rail in the Central Valley. Will 2026 be the year we take action?
Valley Rail isn’t looking so healthy
Costs have only increased while they try and scale back initial investment phases to deliver something which has now become a 5th RT for ACE to San Jose, 1 ACE and 1 Gold Runner RT to Natomas
South extension of ACE to Merced delayed

classic case of north american transit descoping.

the first thing on the chopping block when costs blow up are entire stations (killing access and ridership). in other places it's converting plans for grade separated rail to street median rail.

overlooked are station geometries & alignments
So we definitely have to be doing this for west seattle, right?

Well worth shutting down/massively descoping Grangemouth and the one in England I keep forgetting the name of to replace them with gas storagd then.

Instead of expansion and improvement, Southeastern Pennsylvania is looking at deferral and descoping of public transit projects thanks to the PA Senate GOP!

The "descoping" was announced May 21.

This plan includes the removal of all in-water infrastructure from the Irminger Sea, Station Papa, Endurance and Pioneer Arrays, subject to ship scheduling and other operational constraints.

While we are trying to determine whether the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulations will collapse, the observational system that measures it is actually collapsing. We are dealing with the descoping of OOI, but now budget cuts in Canada are a new problem to solve

While JWST has rightfully received a ton of recent attention, Hubble is still performing extremely well & has capabilities that JWST doesn’t. And yet, budget reductions are putting the mission at risk of significant descoping. This is really sad to see, given how successful Hubble has been and is. 🧪

Yes. It's how they are presenting the major descoping of the project that led to DB demise.

In a telling demonstration of the thought and care that went into this decision, both NSF spokespeople who responded to my emailed questions with the same prepared word salad misprinted the organization’s name as Woods Hole Oceanographic “Institute.”

Why the National Science Foundation is ripping monitoring instruments out of the ocean
