#Descoping
I've pretty much resounded to self funding + descoping as a way to get my games made.

I think even if I did have financial success to make the next thing, contracting part time is still a sensible thing to do
Nova Assembly head Denis Federov says indie studios should look at alternatives to publishers. "Even experienced publishers are struggling to support independent projects. They prefer to play it safe and invest in projects with proven metrics and audiences" https://bit.ly/4AC8XoC

Not really. You‘re only talking about a dozen flights a day to Newcastle and Manchester out of 650 flights overall. You could make a bigger dent with better rail access (since you’d then get about another 20 Scotland flights and in an ideal world, Paris and Brussels) but HS2 descoping killed that.

The SITC Committee will become the Science and Technology Committee – and will be principally concerned with GO-Science, now that DSIT is defunct commonsbusiness.parliament.uk/2026-09-10

Seems like a radical descoping of oversight work done by Chi Onwurah MP et al?

For all the pressure and urgency of the work they dropped in my lap yesterday, business is now considering "descoping" some of the work and like?? Girl make up your mind. It would mean that I don't have to make a mad dash to get it all done, at least. We'll see.

13/ Saudi Arabia's fiscal breakeven sits near $90+/bbl; a sustained oil slump forces prioritisation between megaprojects (NEOM's descoping already showed this happens).

Will they target for "descoping" items lower on more respondents' lists, like a predator seeking out the weakest in the herd? I'd rather hope the responses would be seen as directional guidance for careful, long-range planning that can be successful, preserve expertise, and elevate great science.

Why not invest political capital into reforms to bring costs down instead of aiming low and descoping all our projects?

A bit of descoping which is going to detract from the passenger experience but could have been worse, much worse. TLDR, still going ahead same as before ..

The parallels with HS2 are quite striking. This intervention, like Sunak's HS2 descoping, is prima facie about cost saving. But both are actually desperate straw-clutching to stave off electoral defeat. It failed in Sunak's case, and it's likely to be similar for Carroll in November.

When a game feature works but misses the quality bar, you have 3 choices:

1.Cut it

2.Ship lower quality

3.Delay something else to fix it

Most assume #3 is the answer. In reality? It’s almost always #1. As a Producer descoping shows how hard game dev can be sometimes

What a wonderful, designer Friday! Venus is overskipping, the long-haired rottweilers are descoping and the gossip smells like intromitted cranberry juice and indium!

The past 30 years of transit building in Toronto have basically been a response to continuously increasing costs, with the only tool in our toolbox being… continuously descoping all of our projects.

Isn’t ROBOTS ON THE MOON a walk back from ROBOTS ON MARS though

Is the great descoping happening

I swear it was Mars like two earnings calls ago

@niedermeyer.online am I hallucinating or wasn’t Mars robot factories a thing

I really fear that Alto in the pursuit of separation will send costs spiraling to the point of cancelation/descoping/boondoggle instead of prioritizing an efficient route. You can’t go full speed in the big cities like Toronto anyway, so making use of existing alignments is worth it even if longer.

Absolutely, that’s why the secrecy that has infected the Ontario government is so bad. I work on GO Expansion/RER and it upsets me how many people are unaware of the project let alone all the descoping and shortchanging that has happened despite spending billions since it was originally proposed.

Prague would probably have worked on descoping some of the intersecting streets to remove traffic lights and give priority to the transit street via lateral-street-only stops, but the principle is indeed the same

Ok have at least read/scanned all of the email that came in while I was vacationing, and probably the biggest update to one of my previous @thebulletin.org stories is that NSF has paused all planned removals of Ocean Observatories Initiative equipment. That's a pretty huge win imo!

L'administració Trump ha ordenat la 'descoping' de l'Ocean Observatories Initiative, retirant sensors de quatre de cinc llocs, fet que podria reduir la precisió de les prediccions climàtiques i augmentar l'error en les estimacions de calor oceànica.
