#DevTime
begrudgingly agreeing to play street brawl with friends knowing full well the balance is fucking dogshit and is genuinely a waste of devtime

two types of cod campaign

1. cutoff warzone levels because devtime was 6 months
2. propaganda op with horrific controversy for clicks

2/2
Score 1–5 each; prioritize items with high DevTime × (UserFriction + Margin). Quick rule: a 2x reduction in debugging often beats a marginal UX polish. ⚖️💡

Pick one backlog item and score it — you may be surprised by the order.

and sure you can argue that game health is more than the game simply existing...except ffxiv and runescape 3 still get a ton of updates? rs3 gets an obscene amount of devtime. who're runescape players trying to fool

I guess this is about the amount of time between Forces and Frontiers... but Frontiers's actual devtime wasn't that long (and the franchise was about to be fucking taken out back we just learned) and they've said Frontiers would be a base moving forward so I can't imagine it would take as long

Considering they actually get full devtime for their games nowadays it would basically be a whole game unto itself like Ultrahand building in TOTK
September 28, 2026 at 5:29 PM
I honestly think the same thing, considering how fast of a turnaround this game had (devtime wise), that would not surprise me at all.

if we're including pitching as devtime this hpapened sometime around 2019
September 12, 2026 at 4:18 PM
wait they literally thought they could copy and paste Wolverine on top of Spiderman and make a servicable game ???

also how the hell did that cost $300 mil and 6 years devtime?

i think cutting any characters from the first three games is almost impossible now especially since most of Smash's cuts ever have been because of hardware limitations or a short devtime, Snake probably being the only outright cut in 4 because of the stuff happening with the MGS franchise back then

If you ignore the devtime reasons Fate/EXTRA and it's sequel are praised as one of the best spinoffs in the franchise, stuck behind some incredibly dry and monotonous gameplay

Is camp miasma worth taking a break from my gym / perfect dark devtime rotation to go see or is this gonna be like the time I bought some Torrey Peters books and felt gross after the experience

I'll give the Patreon post my own read at some point tomorrow, since now I'm kind of curious, but I'm not surprised a group of people that already hated 2XKO for reasons outside of Riot Games' horrific treatment of their workers are hounding over someome giving their own personal thought on devtime
August 24, 2026 at 2:26 AM
Riot has had borderline infinite resources for that entire time and yet somehow couldn't make the devtime for ONE fighting game go faster, it clearly was a lot more than just COVID delays and less-experienced devs holding this thing back. The mismanagement at play could likely fuel a docuseries.

A'unno man

10 years of devtime
10 characters at launch
Horrible name
Half the team getting fired on launch day

Hard to feel surprised about any of this, especially since hardcore FGC people are the only ones I have ever heard talk about this game

now, it was a profoundly stupid move for elder scrolls to ever feature so many varied playable races which all are Expected in every game and require lots of devtime, but also I feel like the lesson of this, in successor games, isn't that you can skip over that as part of the recipe for success
June 12, 2026 at 8:49 PM
my read is that it's relatively easy to make them and, if you started playing souls games as they came out, it's been a pretty good amount of time to think "I wanna check out where these came from" and let that idea ferment in your head for a few years of devtime

The arc of nuclear technology (first weapons, then bigger wpns, light water reactors got devtime over safer/cost efficient designs bc submarine, then waste stowage NIMBY)
Seems to suggest “beneficial uses later” is not a winning tack to adopt for expensive and civilization-hobbling technologies

Not all games, no. Concord had to be a liveservice, but games like suicide quad or marvels avengers would have been better projects if more devtime was spent on making the game fun instead of having to focus on seasonal content & skins. Imagine this devtime was spent on the next GoW title instead.

I made SPECIL EMENY in about a month of actual, hard devtime.

It was my first. *First* fangame. Not only was it my first fangame, but it had been a LONG, LONG time since I had made *anything* that had a beginning, a middle, and an end.

My testing process for T4ST3 TH3 2UN for the past 3 to 4 hours of devtime has been having Noelle inspect/eat/throw away grapes.

This shows no sign of stopping.

I think it's def gonna be a make or break for games made at this scale because if anyone can do it Rockstar can. But if Rockstar can't it's gonna be a wake up call for the industry. Even though the devtime and delays even with Rockstar's notorious crunch should be anyways.

That's a good thread you made!

I think player customization is one of the most ill-advised things a VN team can do when it's early on; the systems to pull off visual customization, and the cascading errors with pronouns and such, can really increase devtime even though many players don't want it
