Ghost Dholes are a Coyte/Jackal Size group of Borophagines, with the exception of the Novaeruukian Red Ghost Dhole being around the size as Méxican Grey Wolf.

Was musing on "dog whistle" and my mind wandered to the idea of a dog that whistles.

The Dhole (D-hole?)

Dholes are extremely social and cooperative hunters but not, evidently, terribly hierarchical, with groups ranging up to 40 or so individuals. None of this "alpha" nonsense (wolf packs turn out to be family groups anyway, parents and offspring).

They are currently listed as endangered.

Most places in the contiguous US have coyotes and dogs (domestic and feral). A few have wolves: Mexican, gray, potentially red (I guess that taxonomy is in question). Not many have dholes, though.

Dholes are native to south Asia, although a European variety might have made it to the Pleistocene.

But they are often referred to in English and Mongolian as a red wolf (ulaan chono) which leads to confusion, including with the actual red wolf (Canis rufus), native to Southeastern US, now critically endangered. This has led to various confusion in translations and misidentifying dholes.
