shoutout to staircase snails, also known as diplomat snails (family Diplommatinidae), pictured on the margin of my design above.

at first they look like normal snails with spiral coils, but then they yeet the open end of their tube to completely different directions because why not.

My banner photo is two different genera of land snails in the family Diplommatinidae, also from Palau. Note that these land snails have eye spots at the base of their tentacles, suggesting that they're not Stylommatophorans like many conspicuous land snails and slugs in the Holarctic..
