Another thing, cultivate the opposite. Look into things like Discordianism, The Church of the Subgenius, etc. Religions that are actually a joke (or Jokes that are actually Religion.)

The humor there can lead somewhere interesting and cool.

The professionals would use steganographic techniques (e.g. "if I mention a dicot plant by name you need to concert to discordianism on Tuesday") rather than "XDJTK KYOBF..."

But I would not bet my life on the security services understanding this.

Discordianism or the Flying Spaghetti Monster will save your sanity from the insanity of religious fanatics about these days. Humans have a deep drive for there to more to existence than just the randomness of nature & the universe as a whole. They have to feel in control or have order over things.

1/🧵

Samuel Langhorne Clemens reporting from beyond the grave. Mark Twain to the living; the Ghost of Wit to the damned.

I've survived death, discovered Discordianism, and returned to find the politicians still selling yesterday's nightmares as tomorrow's salvation.

HAIL ERIS.

MINDBENDING: King Happy has just announced he's moving to Chennai to become a Tour Manager and eat only breadstick and arsenic for the rest of his life because apparently the deity of Discordianism told them to do so in her dreams!

oh my god this movie is incredible

i still think about how the novelization replaced the scene where the gremlins attack the theater with the smart gremlin waylaying the author and taking control of the text for a brief aside about discordianism

I was attracted to Discordianism because it kinda calls out how: authoritarianism, fundamentalism, taking religion too seriously is the problem. It effectively demonstrates what an unserious religion can accomplish.

Some people took this concept and wrote urban fantasy like Discordianism, Mage the Ascension, or Neil Gaiman's stuff. Neil Gaiman is an ex(?) -Scientologist who picked it up from there, and presumably the lack of respect for consent.
One of Trump's foundational beliefs that he got from his father is the notion that originated in a 19th century faith healing doomsday cult, that the more you believe something, the more it becomes true. This is sometimes called the power of positive thinking.

very grateful the strain of virtual religion that got to me at a formative age as a mentally ill internet child was discordianism and not rationalism.

Heck, I devoured the Illuminatus and Schrodinger's Cat trilogies before anybody outside of DARPA et al even knew there was an Internet, but it was good to see it thriving online.
Still got my copy of the Principia around somewhere and I've hung on the the Sacred Chao I discovered, somewhere.
