For #wildflowerhour: not flower, but tender young leaves of crack willow (Salix fragilis) looking like strange undersea flowers in ultraviolet light. Bright fluorescent spots on leaves possibly phytoliths: silica granules to deter herbivory. Older leaves lacked them. Ditchingham, Norfolk, England.

St Mary’s Church, Ditchingham, near Bungay. A Grade I listed parish church with origins in the 12th century, though much of the present building dates from the 15th century. The prominent west tower was begun in 1479. The church was restored in 1846 by architect Anthony Salvin. #Ditchingham #aerial

Mild-mannered and retiring by day, by night the humble garden #snail (Cornu aspersum) undergoes an extraordinary metamorphosis, transforming into the centre-of-attention, disco-dancing queen of the back-garden rave scene. In ultraviolet light at Falcon Meadow, Ditchingham, Norfolk, England.

Popped down to Ditchingham for a cheeky bee twitch, thanks to @timstrudwick.bsky.social. Sphecodes albilabris (Giant Blood Bee), super easy to identify on size/colour combination. New to Britain in 2020, seemingly starting to spread now. Species 8,071 for Britain for me, and my 162nd bee.

Great to be out knocking on doors and speaking to residents in Ditchingham and Bungay today.

The government cancelled local elections in our area but I am still knocking on doors to discuss residents' views and my work in Parliament.

There's a roundabout in Ditchingham, Norfolk where the B1332 and the A143 meet. Famously, chickens live on it. That's all.

'Dear dreams of years departed,
Kind ghosts of vanished days,
Slipped in then to the firelight,
Stretched their hands to the blaze,
Lost voices whispered nigh me,
Loved footsteps lingered by me
Ere they went their ways.'

From 'All Hallows' by Cicely Fox Smith

Four sons, 1490, Ditchingham, Norfolk.

For #FontsOnFriday, here's the gorgeous carved stone font in our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, St Mary's Episcopal Church in Hamilton beautifully decorated for Christmas.

It's a copy of the 15th century font in St Mary's Church in Ditchingham in Norfolk.

About 20 years ago my then-boyfriend thought he was hallucinating when he first encountered the Ditchingham Chickens. He was horrified when I, with local knowledge, calmly confirmed that no, that was a flock of chickens, no worries...

1/5 A couple of weeks ago, I returned from an amazing trip to Suffolk for the Black Shuck Festival and stumbled upon the famous Ditchingham chicken roundabout. This quirky spot has an unusual backstory! #Ditchingham #Fortean

This is fantastic news for Bungay and for everyone who enjoys Falcon Meadow and the River Waveney. It is a much-loved local space, valued by swimmers, walkers, and the wider community alike, and this designation rightly recognises its importance.

It is a roundabout on the A143 at Ditchingham which was for many years home to a flock of chickens. I don't know what there is about it to interest the Fortean Times.
