First crit of the evening. Sweet. #DnD4e

Every day we got people reinventing dnd4e and pathfinder 2e
April 20, 2025 at 1:39 AM
by the way? If people liked DnD4e the way they *claim* to like DnD4e? we would not have a 5e in the form it currently is at the moment. We'd still have 4.5e or some wild shit and maybe start talking about if we were bored with Daily, and encounter powers.

The math ain't mathing.

Am I the only one who remembers the entire world decrying dnd4e as "i dont wanna play the world of war craft ttrpg" lololol

Just saw someone describe #DnD4E as "elegant" multiple times in a Reddit post.

dnd4e: look at all these interesting feats and utility powers

me: cool! Taking those utilities at level 2, 6 and 10 and a feat every fourth level?

dnd4e: you know it buddy!

Second crit of the evening, attacking a gelatinous Cube.
20 DMG. Didn't do a great deal. #DND4e

Pf2e actually takes a lot from dnd4e
March 14, 2024 at 9:54 PM
bonus: if you're playing pf2e or dnd4e or anything else w/ leveled gear, just straight up give people stuff 10+ levels higher than they are. that's where all the good stuff is anyway. don't be stingy in the name of some imagined balance when you only get to play like 26 times a year if you're lucky.

Lets talk about how D&D4E and the games that have followed in it's wake have broken my brain when it comes to programming computer RPG systems. #gamedesign #rpg #dnd4e

A full set of power cards for a DnD4e game (Avenger, started mid-paragon tier.) This was a lot of fun to do again after so long.

The #DrawSteel #ttrpg monster book is very cool and I have enjoyed skim reading it. Strong faction feel, emphasis that most people just want to get along with their neighbours, plenty of humanoid enemies with motivations. Solid encounter design notes.

So far an excellent successor to #DnD4e

DnD4e is still wildly popular.

snap realizing this is exactly as how dnd4e was horrible and bad and everyone instantly googled dozens of other systems and we saw a renaissance of different tabletop systems

now people are making Shadowrun mods for 5e

50 - and that's me done.

Subjectively, the best edition of #DnD is the one you grew up playing which is why I have a lot of fondness for #BECMI.

Objectively, the best edition of #DnD is #DnD4e and it's not even close.

The way the industry viscerally recoiled at the clarity of presentation and design of dnd4e was a very loud and clear signal that it would be antagonistic to things I appreciate in the hobby.

I have the #DnD4e Character Builder running in a Windows VM on my Linux desktop.

An enjoyable side hustle and a possible further online game.
