"AI-generated images in place of art" is a great way to put it!

I even want to push back on this idea that it is "generative".

My understanding is that these models start with noise and then use vectors to mathematically arrive at an image output.

Thanks so much to @euphoriaap.bsky.social, @laurieblake.bsky.social, and @buttonkin.bsky.social for their interviews at @ukge.bsky.social. Let's talk about AI in the RPG space, and invite our friends at UKGE to come join us in the stance we're taking. youtu.be/spq0HSP4Mnc

Not a #TTRPG, but this could be a pretty fun dice game.

Criminal Masterminds - A Dice Jail Game

To play this game, you will need 1d20 per player and about 5 each of d4s, d6s, d8s, d10s, and d12s per player.

Has any TTRPG turned "dice jail" rituals into an actual mechanic?

Like, depriving players of specific dice due to their in-game actions?

And what a capstone for a multi year long campaign can the epic destinies be!

Only issue is that it takes so long to get to that point, so it feels like a once-a-lifetime thing to have a group do it.

A lot of great suggestions for other games that do something like that in the thread too.
D&D4 had the epic destiny Last Hurrah series: at level cap, you help your friends tie up the last loose ends in their stories and they help you and then after that, congratulations, you closed the book! You exit the story! Various and sundry PbtA and BoB games have "exit the story" in playbooks!

I don't consider myself a rules lawyer, I'm a rules advocate.
Rules public defenders versus the treacherous self-representing rules sovereign citizen
Very much this

Ive always stood that there is rules layering (I.e trying to manipulate the rules to be a weapon against others) and being a rules attorney (helping everyone with your knowledge either by filling in gaps in knowledge or a siting others as a beneficial tool)

"I thought it would be cool" is exactly why I started making my own TTRPGs.

(And yes, it was and continues to be cool.)

I feel like I'm in this weird middle-ground between being a part of a "tradition" philosophy wherein I spend very little money on the hobby, yet spend hundreds of hours playing and running games and a hobby business where I make new games for others.

Sure, BUT: The credit for the tinkering does not belong with the game. It belongs to those who do it.

I believe many of the best game designers in the world are running bespoke systems based on D&D, which they call D&D, and which neither they nor their play groups credit them for creating.

Just your regular reminder that there are other #TTRPG alternatives to #D&D that aren't leaning on AI.

You really like 5e, but don't want to support AI? Tales of the Valiant or Level Up 5e.

Looking for an old school vibe without the headache of ThAC0? Basic Fantasy.

Like crunch? Pathfinder. 1/3

Badly promote your TTRPG:

You're a magical girl, but getting a bad grade in your science class might ruin your mood and make you worse off in a fight.
Some bad guys also can hurt your feelings by telepathically saying mean things to you.
Badly promote your TTRPG:

You know how there are like 100 fantasy PBTA games out there… well this is another one!
Badly promote your ttrpg:

You like dark, evil romantasy? There’s elves in it. 👀

Definitely not going to have anything finished this month!

Got a lot of puzzle pieces trying to figure out how they are going to fit together to make what I'm working on shine, but I'll get there, eventually.
It's Friday, so let's celebrate works in progress. 🎉

What's one TTRPG project you're hoping to finish this month?

Drop it in the comments - we're excited to see what's coming to the community.

I was thinking about mechanics in "traditional" #TTRPGs that allow you to succeed when it would have been a failure (like D&D's "Succeed at a Cost") and tiered successes such as partial success, full success, and critical success.

I am tired of reading RPG pantheons that are Hellenic reskins.

I am tired of reading "And then, MY sun god, Daylor, is good and he hates the undead, but--get this--there's also a god of orcs and he's bad."

Please give me weird, contradictory, and confusing fantasy divinities.

I've been under the impression that crunch is rules/mechanics and is contrasted with fluff which is "flavor text".
A game with more crunch has more rules, and usually is more stimulationist and/or focused on combat/skirmishes.

Some people like crunch and some don't, but it's not a bad thing, right?
Does a 'crunchy' game stop being crunchy if the crunchy parts are relatively streamlined and not that hard to learn? I've heard chatter from fans and haters alike that Lancer for instance "isn't that crunchy," which makes me wonder if people are using the word like it's exclusively a bad thing.

And a reminder that CITATION MATTERS.

Journals like AGS rely on citation metrics to seek funding.

Individuals (hi) use citations of our work (by journalists, creators, etc) as "evidence of reputation" that weighs in promotion & tenure.

Public Domain Art is the lifeblood of small tabletop rpgs, but it can be a nightmare trying to find the right art and license.

This week, I’ve re-uploaded my old list from 2020 (with updates) of public domain websites. That's 500,000+ public domain paintings, photos, maps, and film.

I liked this breakdown of a way to design weapons in #TTRPGs.

#TTRPG, #TTRPGdesign
It might sound simple but "How many weapons does a TTRPG need?" takes us on an interesting deep dive into game design.
