Snow in Dooagh, Achill today
The gov relaxing planning laws is so depressing in a place where the vast majority of houses built are holiday homes or airbnbs or plan-to-retire-here-but-never-wills. I'd say at least 60% of all houses are totally empty in dooagh.

The old schoolmaster from dooagh passed away. He taught generations of us in school and made sure we could all play music. He is one of the main reasons that the lower half of Achill has so much music. And he was a gentleman. He will be so missed.

In nearby Dooagh, a storm in 1984 washed away the beach sand entirely. It did not return until an unusually high tide in April 2017, restoring 300 metres of golden sand to the shore.

I'd say it could be that high. Dooagh where I'm from has so many buildings and so few living there. But without something like that, people hoarding empty houses aren't put on the spot by the community in any way. The mountains of empty houses are seen as unrelated to people struggling to get a home
