Tech companies generate billions for the Irish exchequer in corporation tax, so they have a considerable amount of power and sway over the Irish government, writes illustrator Harry Burton. "This reminds me of the power and sway the Catholic Church had over previous governments and politicians."

Government should rethink the message we are sending to people who have come to Ireland and made an extraordinary contribution to Irish life.

What they are hearing from Government is that they are not welcome here, and that is wrong. It is particularly wrong, given our history of migration.

Bit of positive news to start the week: the online voter registration system voter.ie is now live nationwide (having previously worked only for Dubliners) - now anyone in the State can register or update their details on the electoral register in a couple of minutes using only their PPS number.

After 20 years of near-silence, the bells of John's Lane Church in Dublin's Liberties are ringing again.

Now, a man who first rang them 50 years ago is looking for volunteers to help keep the tradition alive.

I just signed to stop Italy from capping "foreign" children at 30% per class. Kids could be moved away from their friends because of their passport. Parliament can still delete it. Add your name.

They’re taking signatures from all over Europe.

What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff
And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services.

Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

This Gist got much less love than usual in terms of links, but I think it is one of those that stands for longer than the more topical ones around it.

(It got less love, because I sent it on a Thursday and The Gist readership is made of very busy people)

The Gist: On (and On) Bullshit
I have been thinking about Bullshit, in its official categorisation. In his short and easy essay “On Bullshit”, the euphoniously-named American philosopher Harry J. Frankfurt posited that a person co...

Once again, the greyhound industry received more funding than domestic violence services.

There is no clearer indication of this governments priorities.

There is plenty of luxurious spending in this budget, but it is not going to the people who are hardest hit and most pressed to the bone.
