yeah like how the prevalence of ai is straight up ruining our ability to discern reality. the death of truth is far more of a doomspell for civilization as we know it than the loss of some abstract idea of humanity that isn't even agreed upon

I think USL should be kicking doors in if USLS does not get a league-based spot. Would be a massive departure from precedent in the U.S./Concacaf itself. It would basically doomspell USLP.

Realized I’ve had an extremely rare Harry Potter piece in my drawer for 25 years; an early promo counter display calling book 4 “the doomspell tournament.” Can’t see many examples of sales online, just people saying how rare it is. Maybe I’ll sell and donate to trans orgs.

It’s very important that the Order of Eternal Sorcerous Darkness and its prophet, Eljiff Yarbrave, be allowed to control all sorcerous towers and bound elemental spirits, because Yarbrave’s Prophecy of Doomspell says that if we don’t all life will end.

Everytime I see the "generation of readers" bs I think, Did I read HP as a child, yes. But ya know what I also read? His Dark Materials, Discworld, Redwall, Doomspell, ANIMORPHS & when I was 14 my mum gave me Clive Barker's Weaveworld which is my favourite book to this day.
Go fuck yourself Joanne.

Read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel. Read The Old Kingdom Series (Sabriel, Lirael etc). Read the Bartimaeus trilogy. Read Doomspell. Read Mirror Dreams! Just to name a few off the top of my head from the 90s/early 2000s
Do people understand how many other fantasy books are out there that they could be enjoying instead???

Even when I was a fan of the books as they were coming out I was struck by the poor quality of each subsequent doorstopper that came out. They are not special.
Even aside from Rowling being an insane monster, Jesus fuck I am sick of hearing about Harry Potter

It’s called “Doomspell,” and every wrong guess deletes a word from your vocabulary.

17. Oooh hmm. Gonna quantify this as middle grade and below, and 1. Doomspell Trilogy - Cliff McNish 2. Seeing Stone Trilogy - Kevin Crossley-Holland 3. The Little Prince - Antoine de St.-Exupery 4. The Serpents Egg - J. Fitzgerald McCurdy and 5. Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence

#HorrorWritersChat I've thought about how I would rewrite FMA 03 but tbh, I think it's so firmly rooted in Japanese war trauma that any take I created would become a very distinct thing. Doomspell is a tricky one because I would love to give it a shot as a more adult franchise...but it also fully-

#HorrorWritersChat well, my lifelong love for King is definitely obvious. But Doomspell and FMA are huge, omnipresent influences -- the oddity of the creatures of Doomspell + the philosophical musings of FMA are both very present in Elessa, and, of course, several of my works started as FMA fanfics.
Q2: Some of you suspected where this was going already... You've grown strong on foul nectar, and what do you have to show for it? How has the answer to Q1 left its imprint on your writing? #HorrorWritersChat

Hi all! I'm Elliott Dunstan and I write gothic horror with hints of cosmic, eldritch and lots and lots of body horror. In terms of what made an impact as a kid, my first horror-that-I-knew-was horror was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by King; but The Doomspell Trilogy by Cliff McNish and-
This week we're digging deep, down to your gnarled roots... Introduce yourself, what you write, and something nostalgic that really moved you in some way from the horror genre! #HorrorWritersChat

Yeah, it... Was one of the few things I largely read because everyone else was, and to a certain point to keep my connection with Britain when I moved

But there are so many other series that deserved this kind of popularity. (Doomspell.....my beloved....)

ALSO I looked it up and Doomspell predates Coraline, so if you're grieving the loss of a trustworthy author, I can't say one way or the other about Cliff McNish but Doomspell may have been an influence

Doomspell has a lot of the same "groomer???" vibes but the creep factor is. Somehow, Worse
so apparently I've been holding a signed copy of The Wizard's Promise by Cliff McNish for 23 years and haven't noticed because how often do you look at the title page of your favourite childhood book anyway I'm being incredibly normal about this completely and utterly normal

completely irrelevant note but The Doomspell Trilogy should be adapted with a Black girl lead. I read those books thinking Rachel was Black and I'm still not convinced she's not. (She's probably not but she's very easily read as such.)

For those unfamiliar... so most people... Doomspell starts off-
-directly funding violence. (And most of them are British, too! I grew up in the UK!)

If you *really* want some old MG with witches and wizards, try out:

-Septimus Heap by Angie Sage
-The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
-The Doomspell Trilogy by Cliff McNish
-The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

I loved these books in my tweens! In the Doomspell, the star pupil of an evil witch slowly turns into a monster against her will. In The Silver Child a dying boy drowns his best friend to save his own life. In both, magic is chaotic, frightening, and amoral. What's not to love? 😂💜 #Bookvember

Working titles are fine even, I remember “Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament“ promos.

10 Little Questions with Cliff McNish
When did you start writing and why? My first novel, The Doomspell, came out in 2000. I wrote it for my daughter, Rachel, but I was lucky – it got picked up by an agent and published in 26 languages…
