Given my current reading pace, I probably won’t be getting through as many Doorstoppers in December as I would like – but having gone through my Goodreads TBR, I have certainly found lo…

Laura is hosting #DoorstoppersInDecember partly as an antidote to #NovNov25, but as the weather gets colder/more unpredictable, what’s better than getting stuck into a chunky novel. There are…

Book Review for “May Contain Murder” (AKA "Murder Below Deck") by Orlando Murrin (Chef Paul Delamare Mystery #2). Summary: "Worse things happen at sea. Paul Delamare has been roped into accompanying his old friend on a luxury cruise aboard the magnificent superyacht Mal de Mer. It’s all plain sailing until his friend’s priceless necklace is stolen, and everyone falls under suspicion.

The WWW Wednesday meme This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and was revived by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do an update on your reading and plans. I know lots of people do this one every week, but my being such a slow reader, you'd all get bored seeing the same thing week after week.

Book Review for “Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone” by Benjamin Stevenson. Summary: "I was dreading the Cunningham family reunion even before the first murder. Before the storm stranded us at the mountain resort. The thing is, us Cunninghams don't really get along. We've only got one thing in common: we've all killed someone. When they find the first body in the snow, it's clear that only a Cunningham could have committed the crime - and it's up to me to prove it.

I like to lose myself in a big, chunky read at the end of the year, and so I was immediately taken with idea of Doorstoppers in December when Laura at drlauratisdall.wordpress.com first mentioned it. While I wasn't sure how many I could squeeze in, I managed to read four doorstoppers last month. I'll be honest, I was hoping for five, but the Christmas period was quite hectic and there just wasn't as much time for reading as I'd hoped!

Katabasis, noun, Ancient Greek. The story of a hero's descent to the underworld. Grad student Alice Law has only ever had one goal: to become the brightest mind in the field of analytic magick. But the only person who can make her dream come true is dead and – inconveniently – in Hell. And Alice, along with her biggest rival Peter Murdoch, is going after him.

I like big books and I cannot lie! Hi, and welcome to my Doorstoppers in December sign up post.  The brainchild of Laura who blogs at drlauratisdall.wordpress.com, Doorstoppers in December is intended to celebrate the big book when the publishing industry is trending towards shorter reads.  Like Laura, I sometimes want a big, chunky novel to fully immerse myself in and I like to tackle these books in December.

I really did enjoy romping through Susan Choi’s Flashlight after reading Christina Stead’s (literally) heavyweight House of All Nations.  It was a bit of a dash because it was due back …
