it's fine, just do it, if you have a spare ssd (in THIS economy?! /j) install a distro on there and just use it.

if i have to dualboot and run lightroom i will be unhappy. Dualbooting WindowsXP to play Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge (RIP Westwood Studios) before good win7 fixes existed was totally worth doing, but not for Lightroom >_>...

tbh I have barely messed with dualbooting ever since secureboot created weird schism between windows and certain linux distros because it just becomes a massive headache to troubleshoot

how familiar are you with linux/windows bootloaders, and decoupling them as needed. grub2 is nice to use but you gotta be familiar with how to set it up without destroying your existing setup. dualbooting (grub2 esp) can be okay but if you don't want to Computer, its really hard to recc tbh.

If anything, getting a laptop sooner than later means jumping into Linux sooner than later. My original plan was to both get another 1 TB for my PC for dualbooting and a work laptop, but oh well.

Linux daughter here, yeah the Linux son would be better because it doesn't seem like he's being rude about it and I'm sure he'd help with getting used to Linux. He'd probably even set up dualbooting for you so you can be sure you can always use Windows when you really need to if Wine isn't enough

-that European governments already did as per their migration to Linux, but you have different path per my recommendation is to dualbooting Windows and Linux, you don't need to necessarily migrating your program to Linux yet as compatibility matter

On your PC or laptop, dualbooting Windows 11 and Linux is great, if you don't need Windows you can use Linux but if you needed to using Windows due to better compatibility then yes you can it's easy!

Dualbooting Linux Mint has been like a rollercoaster, to say the least. I almost thought I'd actually never get Windows 10 back after I had to figure out which was the correct drive to reinstall it on, and I almost lost hope when Linux Mint got rid of my Windows Boot Manager.

i don't mind dualbooting for things where it's either extremely more convenient on windows (VR games) or absolutely refuses to run on linux (adobe software if that's ur thing). everything else though? linux baybeee

dualbooting was becoming a pain in the ass due to the bios so instead we doing linux for now

I've started dualbooting, installed CachyOS, and I'm enjoying it so far. I'll still need windows for some things, but most of my day to day things are doable in Linux now it seems, especially with all the recent advancements. Runs better than Windows :3

It's best to use two separate drives for dualbooting instead of partitioning one. That way Windows can't overwrite the loader whenever it feels like it.
Or use a USB with Ventoy if you feel like trying out different distros, or enable persistence with it for using a completely portable system.

Moved to living room, ran hdmi to 4k tv for when I wanna play single player stuff
Dualbooting custom Win 11/ CachyOs w/KDE
Drawing stuff is in my bedroom so I can just focus
