While I was in a microsoldering mood, I thought I'd dump the emmc from a samsung TV motherboard that I bricked way back.
I was starting to wonder if the "dump emmc with SD card reader" technique was some kind of urban legend because it's never worked for me before, until now.

extremely lucky fox fix tonight.. the switch's system storage is encrypted with per-console keys *and* detachable... a switch without its paired emmc is basically unfixable. one of my units had an emmc/key mismatch, and on a hunch I swapped its module with another from that lot.. and it worked 🦊🙏

extremely lucky fox fix tonight.. the switch's system storage is encrypted with per-console keys *and* detachable... a switch without its paired emmc is basically unfixable. one of my units had an emmc/key mismatch, and on a hunch I swapped its module with another from that lot.. and it worked 🦊🙏
i should probably write a little memory peek/poke backdoor into the nokia bootloader i'm reversing and trying to exploit, since raw emmc access on the 800/710 means i can just Do That

eMMC isn't connected directly, it's accessed via the southbridge, which is connected to the SoC over PCIe. IIUC there's a fair bit of jitter here, hence my idea to trigger on PCIe activity rather than eMMC activity - but PCIe is a much faster bus, harder to sniff.

eMMC isn't connected directly, it's accessed via the southbridge, which is connected to the SoC over PCIe. IIUC there's a fair bit of jitter here, hence my idea to trigger on PCIe activity rather than eMMC activity - but PCIe is a much faster bus, harder to sniff.
this switch ended up being a little troublesome... I found it had a failing EMMC when the system format stalled out. fortunately it was only write failing, and I was able to back it up and restore it to a replacement EMMC. it formatted properly after that, and is now stress testing in splatoon 2 🦊👍

In case your DM250 ran OpenBSD too fast, I made armv7 able to boot from a softraid disk so you can have a fully encrypted eMMC root.

today's fox fix is an OLED switch with no boot after a modchip attempt; after (thankfully) being able to backup the EMMC, I repaired the damaged solder mask, and added a permanent DAT0 line to safely connect to the modchip. I reballed and reflowed the EMMC, and.. it worked! another switch saved 🦊👍

Um estudante do IFPR Campus Ivaiporã criou a primeira documentação pública para rodar Linux diretamente no armazenamento interno (eMMC) de uma TV Box pirata. Gabriel Cezar Lima usou um ESP32 como adaptador UART e modificou o bootloader para inicializar o Debian 13 com XFCE em menos de 5 segundos!

Swapping a new SSD into a 64 GB eMMC Steam Deck for someone and idk why but I'd assumed it would be soldered to the board like some laptops? did not know you could just get NVME-shaped eMMC modules like this. Neat

Game Card 2 uses eMMC standard, and the max data rate is 400MB/s. bsky.app/profile/ninp...
I noticed one thing in the Switch 2 Game Card patents (see last thread), but wanted to verify it first. After consulting with someone knowing more than I, it’s confirmed that:
• Game Card 2 communicates with SoC via eMMC standard
• eMMC’s max data transfer rate, hence the Card too, is 400MB/s

Not enough to justify keeping those manufacturing plants open. eMMC memory card readers aren't going anywhere. Optical drives are in fewer and fewer things.
